Dark cloud, silver lining?
An interesting and unplanned turn of events happened tonight. Soon after Alan left the bar where me and my ex-co-workers were hanging out, something cool happened for me at least.
I was sitting out on the "porch" area outside of this bar chatting with some confused car guy watching this white Ranger sportside leave. I took particuar interest in this Ranger since I heard it fire up and it sounded like a 4.0L. I watched him pull a u-turn, go a light and blow the second. The second light was met in the bed by a 2004 Honda Element which sent the Ranger into a light pole. The female passenger checked the windshield with her face and sliced her lip open pretty good (no seatbelt).
At the point of impact, I was running towards the scene. The Element driver was out of the car already and talking with the driver of the Ranger. I was confused as to what was going on and saw all of the blood coming from the female passenger. She then tries to jump into the Ranger and get it started. Fortunately, the fuel pump cutoff had been tripped. I run over to the still running Element and cut the ignition, kill the lights and nail the hazzard switch (learning from Ronin's experiance with blown motors and insurance coverage). The drivers of the Element and Ranger were okay.
Moments later, the cops arrive. I had been conversing with the guy in the Element for a long time. I gave him my number and later gave my statement to the investigating officer. In the long time it took to process everything, I told him of Ronin Scott's story and how poor Scott got fucked by the insurance company which is why I reacted so quickly to his ailing Element. He was just in awe that I did so and we started talking more. I really didn't know who he was due to the mayhem. He had given me his business card earlier, but I was more concerned with all that was going on and didn't pay any attention to it. It turns out this guy is the president of the DuPont Registry.
My jaw drops as I am placing broken pieces of his Element on the sidewalk.
Long story short, he told me that he is going to contact me on Friday about anything that is available there. I about shit myself. As sorry as I feel for everyone involved, I cannot help but keep smiling. And that was a totally selfless act...I would have done that for anyone and reported the same truthful incident to the police.
My face hurts from smiling so much. Just thought I would share...it was pretty crazy.

Cool guy. I don't know if it's the same guy or not but when my son was 11 and dying of cancer. The head honcho of the DuPont Registry came to the hospital in a Lambo Countach and picked him up and drove him around town for a while. Really cool thing to do for a kid.
