No more paid flying for me...
Yup, you read it right. I removed myself from WSO training yesterday (weapons systems officer) for a multitude of reasons. The biggest one being I loathe military flying. I think the majority of that stems from not beingin control of the airplane you are in. Zate should have the biggest idea of what I am talking about as well as Al since they both hav some flying experience in one capacity or another. I will still fly civilian aircraft in my free time and finish working on my private rating so I can rent planes and or buy one to scare the shit out of people.
My other true love has always been with the law enforcement community, but right now USAF security forces are manned 267 percent for Lieutenents..so I most likely will not be going there. I am putting in for OSI, office of special investigations, but they only take like 3 a year. I will most likely be sent to space and missiles training to dick around with sattelites and sit in a missile silo or they will send me to Intel training, two critically undermanned fields in the USAF right now. I am leaning towards space and missiles since the school is only 6 months and it allows me to get over to security forces easier than Intel. Probably leave the USAF in a few years and go be a cop somewhere, I still have a BA in criminology and they are usually not too picky on past military service.

i totally understand what you mean Tony.. i was offered Navigator/Weopons officer on F111s when i applied for the airforce in australia.. i declined because if i cant fly it..i aint interested... regardless of if you can cross over later...
I hope you do still keep up the flying in civvie aircraft..i never did and sort of regret it now...
good luck with everything Tony..
i'd head for something that has civilian street appeal.. ie something than you will be able to do outside..
that or try to get into something to do with intel so that you can go CIA or FBI one day

Intel is intrigueing, but not sure if it is my cup of tea..prolly gonna accept space and missiles if I don't get SF first round applying, and apparently 6 months after my space.missile tour I can start reapplying. I talked to SF assignments and they said that SF should be accepting people in about a yera, which works ou perfectly.

I understand fully Tony. I was a crew chief/plane captian/door gunner for 5 years.
Basically a 3rd crewmember that did not actually fly. Although I always had input into the decision making process in the cockpit. My last few years I became fully aware that I was putting my life in some other yahoos hands. And many time (more than I can count) those yahoos put my life in jeapardy.
I dont even like to get on an airliner anymore because I dont know whats going on in the cockpit.
