WTS: 1968 VW Beetle Convertible
Bought this for the wife in October of 2005. SHe just won't get comfortable driving a stick, so it is sitting in my garage collecting dust. Finally got her to agree to let me sell it since she never drives it. Here is what I know about it.
1968 VW vert- WOuld make an EXCELLENT resto project!
The good:
Pans are excellent (no need to replace)
Runs and drives fine (starts right up every time, even after sitting in my garage for a month at a time unused.
Looks great from 5-10 ft away
HAve a complete set of factory Seat covers in minty condition
Replaced the entire exhuast a week ago
I drove this car over 50 miles home (including a good chunk on I4 without problems, since them, I have just been driving it locally and with the wife.
Replaced the old steering wheel pictured with a new steering wheel.
HAve a bag of new parts we bought at Bug Jam last year (window handles, new glove box, Chrome speedo and guage holders, console (all new and still sealed.
ALso have a new crystal clear speedo- Paid over 300 for all the parts we bought at bug jam
Also have 2 autostick trannys and parts to include (was going to convert to autostick for the wife, but it is too involved in a 196 you can sell them off or toss them
The bads:
Top- rear window is seperating at the seems (window is glass, not cheap vinyl)
Right rear fender has a softball sized ding (primered and reprayed red to prevent rust until I replaced the fender)
Some rusting at lip of hood
Has the typical oil drip (2-3 drops when setting) THis can be fixed by changing the oil which will replace the leaking gasket)
Brakes pull a bit to the right
Small areas for attention all over (the car is from 1968 and only been restored once(sometime it was changed from an off white color to red)
Probably more little things to, this is not a show car, and I have not dove deep enough into it to really get into all issues if they exist.
Overall, you could use this for a daily driver for some fun, or dump 2k in it for a complete resto.
Restored beauties like this go for up to 10k all day on ebay
I need $3000 out of this. I paid 4k plus parts
