I am having an issue with my car lately. First my optima yellow top died, so I had to keep jumping my car. I bought a $40 used battery from Advance. It worked a bit for a little while but kept seeming like it was low. Filled the water back up to full in the battery and it worked ok for a few days.

Every time I went to start the car it would very slowly turn over then become a bit faster until it would eventually start. The other day I went for a longish drive with the radio on full the whole time. I stopped at publix to get some things, came out and the car turned over 3-4 times very very slowly and died.

I walked home to get my g/fs car which I usually use to jump it, and it will not turn over at all, even after letting it sit and charge for a good 15 minutes.

Seems like a starter issue, but it was strange that it seemed like it was fine since it actually turned over, but just slowly like low battery.

Any Ideas? I know the alternator is ok, atleast I think so, the guy at advance told me it was putting out plenty of power.

Anyone? No one? Anyone even have a starter for sale?

 

LKQ has some 525 cars in the lot, they should be the same starter. Id think the Alternator would be the problem though. If a jump start is working my guess the battery isnt fully charged.
Also depending on how small you hands are, sometimes its easier to pull the intake off to get to the starter. Its plastic and only about 15 nuts to get it out of the way.

I had the alternator tested and it was showing fine. The guy at advance said it was pushing out a solid 14. It *was* able to be jumped, but no longer is, the battery has some decent amount of juice in it at the moment, the windows and stereo work, but no starting at all now.

So I am thinking it was the battery first that just took a shit, because the optima didnt hold a charge, now the starter is dead too.
