You don't need a fan removal tool, it's just a slotted wrench. It's just 12, 16 and 22m. Go pick up 101 performance projects for your BMw, shows pictures how to do headgasket and more.

Course I bet you're gunna sell it in a month and move into a 240sx. Nilforteeeeeeeeeeh

i tried many things to remove the fan without the tool and i didnt have much luck so i bought the tool and the fan is off so its too late i own the tool now. i dont need any criticism or mean spirited comments i know im capable of performing this job with the right instructions and the right tools and if i wanted a 240 i would have a 240. so anywaysss...... has anyone sucessfully completed this job before with a good outcome? just curious

I have 9 times. just replace the timing chain tensioner since you're pulling the chain off to take out the head.

You'll need a camshaft alignment tool, tesnioenr tool and def a 22mm deep socket.

oil pressure check value is something that's forgetful xD

Remove belts, radiator, remove waterpmp, sparkplugs, valve cover gasket, camshaft, intake manifold, vanos removal, tensioner, vanols oil line xD. I feel sorry for you.

gunna be a bitch xD.

i know this is gonna be such a pain in the ass but i dont have a car and i dont have money to buy a car either so im at a dead end and i have no other options but to fix this car. i live with mommy and i depend on my mcdonalds salary. just some fun facts i thought id share. well so far i have completely removed the intake mani and the exhaust is disconnected and out of the way and the radiator and fan and cooling stuff is out of the way as well and now im going to work on the vanos unit. ive removed the oil banjo bolt for the vanos and this is where i stand at the moment. flipping through the Chiltons manual can get frustrating sometimes

you're putting all the bolts and such in ziploc bags and naming them right? it is a bitch to figure out where they all went. Stop now and make sure to identify EACH and every bolt you took out and where it came from.

Sorry to say, but this project is going to end very soon. a head milling and cleaning is going to coast 200-350$ max. Plus any tools it'd require. I'd stop now, reverse it and sell it, its still worth 1200$- barley. I'd take 900 and run though. Plus if theres other issues, and if you don't put the timing correct you might as well kiss the engine goodbye.
Sell it and buy a corolla, geo storm or any car that has a non-interference engine with high tolerance.

you didn't need headbolts; which brand are they? if their chinese shit I would not use them since they may not be made to spec. headbolts in BMW's do not need to be replaced when doing headgasket, there was no manufacturing error. Usual suspect in headgakset for bmw's is because of inadquate cooling whether the thermostat, waterpump or Fan was not sufficent.

get 101 performance projects for your bmw. it's 20$ at barnes and nobles. it shows everything you need to do step by step with pictures.

101 Performance Projects for Your BMW 3 - Google Books

or if you feel lucky heres the digitla version el oh el.
