Difference is the bumpers and front valance. Also tail light sizes change when they went to the colored bumpers. The M3 is way different.

The switches get dirty. They can be taken apart and cleaned. Also there is a fuse that sits in the dash above the radio. It pops out like a blown fuse. It can be pushed in and re sets the power. This is the power for the windows.

ok cool. thanks i may be in here more often and hopefully ill learn some stuff and have some helpful input

the windows and sunroof dont work and i figure it would be the switches not the motors because all 3 going out would seem unlikely to me.

Or the linked fuse on the Dash. it runs all the power options. ITs the square button next to the defrost i think.

And another thing about the body differences is that the early models have higher rear arches. 88 was a breed between early and late model differences.

not really , its Aluminum. Unless you can Mig weld and want to change the oil pickup . then maybe you could get 2 more inches of clearance.
There was a company in the 80s that made a skid plate for the e30s for the rally cars. You may be able to find one of those..
