Default Heater valve typical problem?

I just got a 95 318i (I wanted good MPG). The heat doesnt work. The fan blows, my thermostat is opening, and Im assuming the heater core isnt bypassed. I have the temp the the hottest setting and it just blows cold all day long. From surfing other forums I keep hearing about the heater valve. Does this part play any significance?

there should be the 2 little knobs to change the temp on each side. then where the very top vent is there is another dial that has to be turned to Hot also. (it doesnt light up at night)

It might be as simple as that.....

goodluck

I didnt know you were serious about using the dials They were adjusted correctly, Im at least that smart. I havent tried to use the heat since the problem, my radiator leaks a little bit so Im banking on that I cant get her fully bled.

Im focusing my attention on why I get get my car to flash me stored codes when I do the "gas pedal" trick. I turn the key to ON and immediately pump the gas 5 times and I get nothing but a constant illuminated CEL letting me know something is wrong.

The twin temp systems have 2 electric motors and a pump . On my e34 its on the firewall on the drivers side. IF these motors dont work they wont pump the hot water into the car thus no heat. Im guessing a e36 is the same layout.

Hello there, I think the heater valve plays an important role, Before i don't believe that i still need a heater valve until i have read an article about that. It says that it regulates the heat coming from the car or truck's heater into passenger compartment.

1. any air in the system
2. heater valve
3. thermostat
4. water pump

could be any of those reasons. if you've gota leak, fix it. and bleed it a million times. does it over heat? cooling system been over hauled? bimmerforums is your friend!
