Ken Price
2000 HD FatBoy, carbureted, stock, 50K miles. If I get on it (coming down a ramp to the interstate) it will start cutting out at 60mph. If I slow down below 60 it runs fine. If I speed back up it will start cutting out at 60 again.
If it is sitting still and I rev the engine up, it runs fine until I get to the RPM that would have been 60 MPH. Am I starving the carburetor, fuel pressure, timing? After sitting for a while, it runs great – even above 60MPH. This seems to be an intermittent problem. But, if I get on it again, I have the same problem.

Customer Service Techs
There are a number of things that can cause this issue.
Yes, you can be “starving” your carb for fuel. Check your float height and before moving on, verify that nothing is interfering with your needle valve & seat.
Inspect your intermediate (slow) jet & main jet. Make sure nothing is blocking their passages.
Inspect the condition of the diaphragm on your slide. Check for pin holes or tears.
Check for an intake leak. If intake seals have not been changed in a while, they may be due.
Check for a vacume leak.
Also, make sure that your gas caps are venting and that your fuel line is not kinked, or collapsing.
If you still have your stock vacume fuel valve, you may want to consider replacing with a OEM replacement, or Golan fuel valve.
