bike for under $2000 ??
Can a decent bike be had for under $2000?
I'd prefer sport bike, but I'd be open to other options too.
Mainly looking for something that can handle the interstate, roughly 40 miles a day commuting back and forth to school. Not looking for "cool" or anything like that.
I used to ride, few years ago, a ZX6rr. I was more comfortable on the zx10r, or even the zx6r, but I could still put a stack of miles on it without too much discomfort.
I'm trying to gauge if a bike would even be a reasonable option as compared to my very thirsty pick up truck.
If my budget was bigger, I wouldn't even question it, but at 2 grand, can you get anything worth it/decent?

I bought a 1987 Yamaha Virago 750 for 750 dollars off of TR many years back. Bike ran like an absolute champ and never once left me stranded, even with having 115k on the odo when I bought it. So yes, it can. I would steer clear of crotch rockets in that price range, though.

I actually do have a fucked up back, drunk driver left me with half a dozen bulging and herniated discs, but that was all after I was riding the zx10r.
I rode the zx6rr for a while, and I could put a fair number of miles on it, but it just felt too "compact"
I only rode a 636 once. It was an enjoyable ride, I just remember thinking that I liked the zx10 a bit better. But then again, I also learned how to ride on a 2006 zx10r, so I've sort of compared everything i've been on since then back to that.

I've been spoiled, I've always been able to ride newer, 4 cylinder sports bikes. But, those are all currently out of my budget.
I just don't want to get stuck on a scooter or anything that can't get out of its own way, on the interstate, when traffic is moving 70-80 mph.
go for an ex500, they're awesome machines to ride, ergo's are comfy as hell. it's a pretty fun bike, nothing like riding a twin revving the fuck outta it. 94+ for sure tho, 2nd gen ex500's are wayyy more reliable.

I've started looking at some of the older bikes like those. there is a honda rebel on craigslist for 1,000 that actually caught my eye and made me think that, that style bike would work for what I'm looking for.

^ I'm starting to see that.
some guy was trying to move an R1 for 2 grand to pay his mortgage.
There is an 06 zx6r for 2 grand that needs a new frame/title work.
got a few I'm looking at.
hoping my funds come through sooner rather than later.
