I wouldn't have any problem with recommendations or character references. (Despite my exceptional asshole qualities, I do know how to turn it off when necessary. ) And I think i'd excel at the personal statement, because...Well, because im me.

BUT, im not joining the military. I make almost 2 grand more a month than officers, so it'd seem kind of senseless to join and make less money, and fall down the totem pole of rank, compared to where im at now.

Too many people join for all the wrong reasons. I dont want to be in that bracket. And at this point in my life, im not willing to give up all the things i've busted my ass for, just to start over.

Although, I wish I could revert back 5 years, and try the military from that point on. I would like to see how I would have turned out. But hind sights 20/20.
I'm just saying, you're discrediting it like it's a cake walk and that you can just walk into the recruiter's office and they can just fall at your feet. Sorry, but it's not like that. I have been working my ass off for months and months on this. I graduated college with a 3.75, an entire list of extra curriculars and volunteering. I failed the test the first time I took it and I've never studied for something so seriously in my life. On top of that, I have to be able to pass a physical test I've been working on for the better part of a year to achieve. Maybe you're just THAT good, but I guess for the rest of us "average" people, it's hard and extremely competitive. So if you don't mind, please STFU.

oh, and pilots ARE officers. you can't be a pilot without being an officer.

thanks Darick, but don't forget that things are different now than 4 years ago...their requirements are different and so on because people are joining the military in droves. They are much pickier, and that's because they can be...everyone wants to join the AF

And reasoning kind of does matter, i had my full time work waiver (from the pcdsb) @ 17 I was working 30+hour a week while going to school. Closing maintenence at mcdonalds. And doing Pre-Cal Class on florida virtual school. In January of 2005 gulf high school contacted me saying i needed an algebra credit (which i took algebra 1 in middle school) they wouldn't carry over my credit....even tho they granted me access or use florida VS for precal online.

They would not carry over the precal credit in its place, So I told ghs to shove it up there ass, and that i was gonna drop out.

Money, Success....I am very work motivated when I have something to show for it. A diploma meant nothing to me. My mother has owned a business for 14 years, she has managed businesses for 25 years. She didnt get her ged until she was 36...if she can do it i can as well.

More then likely i'm going to be joining the Air Force Reserve In April...I just have to go talk to the recruiters on dale mabry

the highest you can get on the asvab is 99. and even though everyone claims to score 90's and up i have only met like one dude in the army who has really done it. i scored a 79 and i had the highest score in my platoon (besides the LT - they don't share that info with us) and it fucked me over all the time.. when it came time for someone in the platoon to be ENT certified or be the hazmat person it was me..

besides your GT score will matter most once you are in, if you don't score high enough you wont be aloud to go to any schools like airborne, air assault, ranger, SF, SERE, pathfinder.. and going to some of those school will get you promoted faster and payed more... i made corporal with only like 20 months time in service..

oh the waiting around was hell... we may have the fastest moving army in the world but getting everyone ready and on the same page takes forever... i have waited over 8hrs on a drop zone waiting to jump... and don't even get me started on going to various ranges. if doesn't matter how much you like shooting guns they will take almost all the fun out of it. i have been at ranges from sun up to sun down and only spent maybe 30mins shooting..

and the packing checklists and having to check them over and over anyone who has been in the army and had to go anywhere knows what i'm talking about...

btw the PT test is 180 out of 300, 60% on the 2mile run and the same on sit ups and push ups.. and 60% is different for different age groups.. but if you don't get at least 260 total you look like a total shit bag...and 270 was really the standard in any unit i was in. if you didn't get a 270 you have extra pt everyday till you did

maybe an 80 to be a pilot, but its only like a 36 to get in the airforce and like 16 to get into the army (11b), and 16 doesn't sound hard to get but 3 kids failed to do while i was there taking the test..

and recruiter pt and pt that you will do in like a airborne combat unit are 2 total different things not all army does the same pt.. i guaranty your not going to hang with a bunch of rangers doing pt when you first get in or in most cases ever... 10 mile runs for breakfast, 20 miles ruck marches for lunch with 100lb packs and who knows what else...

I dont see how I discredited anything? In more words, I basically said I THINK I can do it. Just because I have confidence and I feel that I possibly have the correct apptitude to do something of this nature, means that its downgrading or discrediting it? Just because I have the confidence to think I can do something doesn't necissarily mean I can do it. The only inkling of sarcasm I threw in there was the last part about me being me. But if you want another personal opinion, most of the people in the military are arrogant pricks, so im sure you'd agree that I would fit in.

And as for whats highlighted, you might want to re-read. Its right there in black and white, that I knew you had to be an officer to be able to fly. Hence the reason, why I said I would only ever think about becoming an Officer, if I wanted to fly or be a pilot.

kthanx.

lgh yeah i didnt care about doing anything else except getting to the point when I can fly like a cargo plane such as a c130.

funny thing tho, you can fly in the military but you cannot get out and fly commercial without taking a course all over again. same with ur sport pilots license.

only thing military flight training does is makes it where u dont have to take a test to fly a hot air balloon (only thing a 16 year old kid can fly by themselves lol)

If anyone fails the ASVAB they should be instantly banned from enlisting in any of the armed forces.

I took the test back in '93 when I was still in high school. Wanted to go into the Navy and got into the nuclear engineering program. My mom decided it needed to be my choice and dropped me from the delayed entry program, I was under 18.

Decided in the end of '95 to join the Army and was told I scored high enough to do any job in the service. I chose Airborne Infantry be cause I knew it had probably the fastest promotion rate, more field time which meant less time around the barracks, and who doesn't wanna follow in the foot steps of the WW2 ass kickers. I think my score was mid 80's. I remember people there who were lost at how to take the test. I was bored with it. Seemed like just another standardized test to me designed for idiots who can't follow simple details. Never took the SAT, but took the ACT test for college back home and got a 34 on it.

And I remember the recruiter PT. Thank god we had a SF and Ranger recruiter who took the 5-10 of us aside who were going airborne infantry and put us through some real PT. My last PT test in basic was a 290 and after that I got perfect 300's. Got that snazzy little patch to wear on my nut huggers lol.

And stealth one of my Army buddies got out and went back to college. While in college he got his degree and was in the Air Force ROTC. Graduated and did the officer crap and went to flight school. Last I heard he was flying cargo planes in a reserve unit. He got his civilian license with no further schooling. He fly's small charter flights out of Chicago. He past up going to fly fighter jets because this worked out better for him in the civilian world.

In 18 months I went from E1 to a E4 specialist, with a waiver from the CO. I got knocked down to E3(fuck female officers who want you to salute them like they work for a living) and got it back in two months. Had I stayed in I would have finish my Green to Gold packet which was all ready to go, but luckily I didn't since I found out prior enlisted officers in the Army get the shit duties. I'd rather become a Warrant Officer, make everyone call you Mister lol.

that's crazy when i was doing my flight school shit they told me no military flight training will allow you to get your pilots license...but then again he's doing charter flights which are basically private flights like air taxi.
