^ I don't believe that is the issue for the oil burning concern, it only effects like 5% of early production models. fuck "Break in" give it hell outta the box, your just seating the rings.
I was going through 1 qt of honda synthetic every 1000 miles. I switched to repsol non-synthetic and its been doing a bit better.... (its not to big of a problem, I change my oil every 2k miles anyway...

Very good point... If you did, then that's your problem right there.

yes, don't break in on synthetic but do get that shitty stock oil out of there as soon as you can, then change it again before 1000miles.

first oil change wasnt due til 600mi. I am under the assumption that "break in period" would be the first 600mi. @ 601mi I switched to Amsoil 10w-40.

This is a known problem, the last issue of sport rider, there review of the 09 cbr 1000rr states that one problem with the bike is oil consumption!

shitty "stock" oil? please explain what oil is in new bikes from the factory that is "harmful" to an engine during break in......?

GN4 (non synthetic) is the recommended oil for the bike according to the owners manual and service manual.

its just break in oil, its full of the shit that wears as everything seats and any assembly lube used(normally molly(sp) that all ends up in your filter). maybe shitty isn't the right word, just low grade bulk oil thats only meant to be there for a short time. gotta remember, that oil filters have a bypass. once the fliter gets enough stuff in it, say metal from breaking in, it gets harder to flow oil thru it, once the pressure is high enough the oil bypasses the filter and goes back in the motor. always seemed like a good idea to me, to change it as soon as i got mine home, and did it again at 200 miles. than again at the 600. then went syn around 2500 miles.

but with that said, if all the bikes are using oil. my guess would be its either something designed wrong, like valve guides that let to much oil by, low tension oil rings that are a little to low tension in the search for every last HP. cyl plating causing the rings not to seal right, or some sort of crank case vents, either sucking oil out, or not baffled well enough.

not much you can do about any of it.
