Lost key to CBR600rr
I didn't come across any info on this forum regarding the best procedure for getting a new key cut for a motorcycle.
From the research I've done on google. There is an ignition key code on the ignition lock of my motorcycle. I have exhausted many methods for trying to read this code on my ignition lock, but the characters are too small.
Barney's told me I need to buy a whole new ignition set, as did West Coast Powersports. A few locksmiths tell me they can cut a key, all they need is the bike. Others are telling me it can't be done. And more are saying all they need is the triple tree
Any ideas as to which is correct. It is killing me not be able to ride this thing.

Umm...This is strictly speculation, but can't you just get the VIN off of it, go to a dealer with your title in hand, and get them to make you a new key? Thats how you do it with a car, anyhow.

Barneys is a joke, my buddy lost his key for his 06 cbr600rr and thats what barneys told him. they dont keeps the ignitions codes on file so they can cut a new key. go to action lock and key ( i think its off gun highway) i took my buddies ignition out and took it up there and they charged him i think only 15 bucks for 2 keys and they even had the correct key for his bike. did you lock your handlebars? if not you should be able to take ignition out or you might have to take hole bike up there. hope that helps. Dan

yea that guy probably does not have the aluminuim tag, i guess that little tag has some kinda super code on it. i got the code off the ignition itself and they said they could not do it they dont have the software. took that same code to action lock and key and they pulled it right up and only took about 5 minutes.

When you buy a bike new you get a little coded strip with the code needed to cut new keys if you lose both. Of course, odds are you lost the little coded strip way before you lost both keys. In that case, you can call the manufacturer (or have the dealer call the manufacturer) and as long as you can prove you own the bike, all they need is the VIN to cut you new keys. The only thing that sucks about this is it takes a week or two to actually get the new keys you ordered.
If the locksmith says they can cut a new key if you just bring them the bike, I would go that route unless you don't need the bike for a week or two.

i skimmed over what most of the ppl are saying. it is true there is a code on the ignition or at least most of them. if your in brandon or riverview area i will help you get it off so you can get the key cut. lmk if you need more info or help via pm.

trying to finally get a new key... dad letting you keep the bike? i told your ass to go to the deal with the reg and what not and get them to order you a new key. i still laugh at you for not even riding it yet since you lost the key the 1st day... you'll find the key once you have a new one
