Please keep my friend Tommy in your thoughts or prayers...

this is what happened, he was going east bound on 5th ave around 23rd st and a motorcycle was going west bound. he lifted his visor and saw it was someone he knew.. so he did a U-turn at 21st ST and was going to go catch up to him... he was behind a postal semi and an old lady crossing the street thought she was clear after the semi so she went... my friend slammed into her right front fender at about 60-65mph. The cops said they've never seen anything like this before because in the short amount of time he had to react he actually lifted himself off the seat which saved his life... he was thrown from the bike, his left side hit her windshield breaking his shoulder. he slid for about 90ft when he hit one of those GTE small metal poles (the ones that mark where the wires underground are) with both his legs. his right leg is broken and his left leg was badly damaged... they were going to amputate the left leg but one of the best surgeons at bayfront worked on the leg saving it. he can still lose it though if it gets infected. one of our friends was the 2nd paramedics on scene and said it was a terrible site. they got a call that they were going to a deceased rider and when they pulled up he saw it was our friends bike (he doesnt have a common bike, hes got an 06 675) the left leg was a compound break and his bone was popping out. so after they saved the leg they have to watch out for internals, one of his lungs collapse and his spleen they have to watch. he was wearing his gear which saved his life (helmet, jacket, gloves, long pants). right now im just hoping for the best and that he can keep his legs since he rides dirt and skimboards.

Thanks, it's really rough because his older brother who was our bestfriend died in a motorcycle accident in 06, so we pretty much took the older brother part when he died and watched over tommy... his mother has to be the strongest mothers i've ever seen with all that she has gone through.

 

Damn hope he recovers.

update:
He's doing better today, his gf and parents went and saw him last night and when they went in his blood pressure dropped so they are not allowing visiting time with him for a couple days maybe a week because he needs all the blood pressure he can get to heal the leg... they did test of the brain like opening your eyes wide and closeing them really tight and he responded to all those.

Tommy is a cool kid i went to middle school and high school with him. I hope he makes it out ok.
