Default would you fight this....

and if so, do you think you could really win?

here's the scenario, my friend was out riding last night, doing speed limit on park blvd in Pinellas Park, which is about 45-50 mph, a cop pulls out behind him. His bike is pretty much naked, he took off the fairings so he can repaint it. The cop lights him up and he pulls over because he knows he hasn't done anything wrong since he was following the speed, registration good, has endorsement, etc. Cop runs his license, comes back and tells him that he pulled him over because of his license plate. His tag is ziptied on, and the cop stated it was a FLIP UP license plate to run from the cops. So the cop issued him an $1100 ticket. Is that really what it's coming down to with bikes? I mean I don't ride myself, but I have before they changed all these laws. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

First time i'm hearing of someone actually getting the expensive tag ticket. I'd fight it even if I had a flipup plate or was mounted somewhere "inappropriate".

2nd time you get the ticket it's 2500 and like a 1 year license revocation, 3rd time it's $5000 and no license for TEN years. WOW way to go Florida. As bikers we get fucked by idiots who can't drive [dual-track vehicles] responsibly, now we get fucked by the LONG DICK OF THE LAW.

strange question, what gear was your friend wearing? I ask because I have a theory that the LEO's hassle people with gear less.

and I'd fight that

as for gear, he was wearing his helmet, gloves, jacket, the whole 9 yards. stock exhaust, not drawing any attention to himself

it sucks how with the new laws, they can't just give bikers fix it tickets. its a shame how a DUI ticket costs less than this.

so as far as fighting it goes, what would your argument be? Tell the judge it was ziptied?

I couldn't find it so maybe he'll post it up but another member got a tag ticket under the old laws in Lake County and had an educational experience. He had his experience published online

i would fite it i got pulled over every day for 3 months and issued a ticket at least 1 time a day and went to court for all of them they all got thrown out and the judges always said it was harrasment (wich it was because of a diffrent story) but after 3 months i had 1 judge tell me they have thrown out so many they have to find me guilty on 1 even tho she feals its just another bullshyt ticket(it was crazy hearing a judge use those exact words) so i got suckered into paying a ticket but she droped the fine way down...basically you dont lose shyt by fighting it...the whole court cost will be issued is crap all the times i went in there the only people they issued that to was dumb ass dui people...all the judges no pinellas park is full of crooked ass cops...oh yea and by the way its crazy because i actually drove by in a car as the cop pulled your friend...i was going the other way and didnt think much of it other than wow harrassing another person they never stop...
