Default Decent Deals on Stuff at Cycle Gear

I was there a couple weeks ago to buy some chain lube and happened to look at their selection of closeout/display/etc helmets and just scoping prices on their 'red tag' deals.

Only this passed Thursday did I find out that it was actually 20% off the sticker price of $129.99 and actually another 20% off with some manager's special they were running.

So I bought a KBC VR-2R Reaper in Medium for $85 with tax. It is M2005 manufactured in 2007. Not bad as the cheapest I've seen on eBay is about $130 shipped. Came with standard shield, bag and manual. CycleGear.com has it on sale for $99.99, but I'm not sure if the same discounts apply.

They had one Arai Quantum-II in medium for $249.99. I know it is M2000 Snell though, so it is a little bit of an older model. Still a great price for an Arai. It was actually this very one here: [thanks Google for the fancy animated .gif]

They also had other helmets ranging from full-face to 1/2 lids to dirt.

I'm happy with the purchase as it is a nice change or spare.

I love my Shoei RF1000, but I have already noticed that the KBC VR-2R is more suited to a 'neutral' head shape as I have a rounder head shape, while the RF1000s are known for being better fitting for 'narrow' or 'longitudinal' heads.

Anyway, if you're looking for lids, albeit spare or main, Cycle Gear on Florida and Fletcher Ave in North Tampa is a pretty decent place to look and at least try on some lids. I came in to buy a shield ratchet screw for my Shoei, which I got for free anyway, and came out with another helmet, ha.

Get a better/taller windscreen, or change your riding body position.

i have the stock windscreen but the helmet just has a non aero dynamic shape and the wind catches it mad easy...i can be completely under the windscreen and on a windy night it will get me...and it is not my riding possition as i have tried many...the cheap ass vega helmet i had before this was even worse...the shoie i had before that was perfect but it is also bout 700 bux so you get what you pay for...this is a nice hemet but it is not perfect thats all im saying...

Hmm, the weight doesn't really bother me at all. I do notice it is slightly heaver than the RF1000, when holding it, but I don't feel any additional neck strain or anything after riding.

As of lately, the only complaints I have are wind noise and the inability to fully close the front breathguard/lower intake vents. Even in the 'closed' position, air still comes in the mesh grates. Not a big deal at all as I either use ear plugs or listen to my iPod. And the lower intake keeps the helmet pretty cool, even without any fancy rear exhaust ports.
