Default Modular Helmets?

Anybody use these?

With the Florida Spring/Summer coming into full swing, I was wondering what other options there were for getting rid of the trapped heat of a full-faced helmet while having the added protection of a full-faced helmet at the same time.

They look like they'd be convenient if you ride to commute to work, school, etc and stop at lights often. However, I do notice that they're usually not Snell approved. I take it their 'crashworthiness' isn't as good as typical solid, full-face lids.

I also ask because newenough.com has some pretty decent deals on HJC CL-Max's for the solid colors starting at $108 before shipping.

Some will tell you they are safe, but I had a coworker bust his face up badly when it broke in a wreck.

+1 - seen it first hand. a guy was wearing one at Jennings, crashed and the locks broke, allowing the front half to flip up and tore is face all to hell. after seeing that happen to him, the pain he was in, the condition of his jaw, I told myself I would warn anyone that I saw wearing them or asked if they were good.... I would stay away from them if I were you, the heat is bareable, scars are for life.

need tires (take offs)? PM me
need a deal on a track day? PM me

disclaimer: I sell used tires (take-offs), these tires have been used at Jennings, Homestead, etc. (road courses for those that dont know) therefor these tires are more used up on the sides than in the middle,

they are only rated for a half helmet or w.e you call them. the normal helmet that old people wear that dont own sportbikes. they are only rated for that because when you crash the modular part breaks off and it becomes a 1/23 helmet. it is just for leisure not for safety.

I will never wear anything other than a full face helmet. I never really thought any of my helmets were that hot though either, even in the full heat of summer. What kind do you wear? Some breathe better than others, but like I said, even my first HJC $100 helmet didn't really bother me.

Thanks for the replies. Pretty much what I was expecting in terms of feedback. I figured the safety issue was the biggest thing.

I am kinda looking around for a spare/passenger helmet right now at around the $100 mark. I have found some nice HJC CL-SPs and the like on newenough.com also.

I have a Shoei RF1000 and I really don't mind it, as I said, I just wanted some insight from others re: modular lids if they had any experience with them.

Thanks again guys, picked up the KBC VR-2R as a spare for a pretty decent price.

If anyone else needs info regarding modular helmets, they can just check this thread I guess.
