Default HowTo: Green Light Every Time

Trigger green lights!

What You'll Need:
2 Neodymium magnets - Kips uses magnets that have a pulling force of over 6lbs each
Some heavy duty exterior mounting tape
Optional: A waterproof, rust-proof pill holder

Steps:
Cut off a small strip of tape
Tape the magnets together with one side of the tape
Tape the magnets to your to the underside of scooter or motorcycle with the other side of the tape - perpendicular to the direction of travel.
If you desire, you can put the magnets into a waterproof, rust-proof pill holder and then mount the pill holder to your vehicle.

What the heck is going on here:
At most traffic lights and turn signals, you will notice a loop of wire buried in the pavement of the road near the stop line. This is called an Inductive-loop traffic detector that operates by sensing a change in frequency to the electromagnetic field over the coil of wire. In other words, when a car pulls up, it senses the vehicle and the light changes. Most motorcycles, scooters, bicycles and small cars don't have enough conductive material to trigger these loops and change the traffic light.

It's damn annoying to wait at lights that don't recognize motorcycles or aluminum sports cars. I saw this on the science channel and figured it was worth the investment. I ordered a 5 pack of these magnets on ebay for $6. I'll let everyone know if it works and how well.

It's a lot easier just to report a non-working light and have it fixed. And it's free... And not stupid.

tape the magnets together? If they are taped with N-N or S-S I doubt the tape would hold them together as they repel each other. And if taping N-S, why tape them, with over 6lbs of force holding them together? let us know how it goes I guess

/\ Dunno. They showed just one magnet placed perpendicular to the bike on the tv show. Guess I'll just have to try it.

You don't need much inductance to trigger a loop. Most bikes at most lights will, but if you have a problem, just report the light...

Good info, I read the WikiHow and its got alot of useful info that doesnt require magnets. I personally wouldnt want to use strong magnets bc/ they can ruin your electronics or bankcards if theyre on you and your fiddling with your bike. Can you say bricked iPhone?

6lbs of force is not as much as you may be thinking. Even if they are oppositely attracted
