So I ran into some disposable money recently and decided to go out and buy a dirtbike...goin to pick it up sunday! 2 of my 3 brothers just got bikes and i went riding with them today and had a blast so I looked some up and found one I liked!....Its my first dirtbike! I had a street bike a year ago and today was the first time I drove a dirtbike. There fun as hell! Im picking up a jap knockoff chinese bike...its a 200 4 stroke. my one brother got a similar bike and it seems pretty quick and sufficient for a first timer. My other bro got a YZ 250 which is FAST AS HELL!!! I got on it, and pulled it up within 10 feet of driving it...scared the piss outta me. Mine is an 07...looks brand new...guy says he rode it 5 times!!! I feel like a kid on christmas eve!!!

Anybody else ride dirtbikes on here? any good LOCAL trails in the tampa area....I was riding the powerlines today over by countryway and citrus park. theres not too many usable trails back there tho.

 

Looks nice I need to get money so I can finally buy one. How much did you pay for it ?

 

I'm actually going to get into it soon. I was going to get a street bike, but I don't want to cheat death every time I drive it on these dangerous streets. A dirt bike seems like the way to go since I can hit up some trails, and take it up to chrome (sp?) or whatever one weekends.

I just wonder about maintenance, and how expansive it's going to be in the long run. I've been doing some research, it seems harder to buy a dirt bike that's been taken care. Another thing is which model to get. I'm thinking of more dirt bike, but something like an enduro, 250cc-450cc, and I want to stay name brand. I don't know how reliable the Chinese brands are.

If you wanna go out in the next couple weeks we're taking out a Banshee,KX125,KX500,4x4 ATV,and another 200 4 stroke.You,and your brothers are more than welcome to join.

We usually go out to Rancho,which is about a hour or so away but it's GREAT trails and open riding.

 

Think your talking about Croom.. Up here around my area. It is def. the best place to go that I know of for trials and open area's.

i wouldnt buy the chinese crap. i hope you havent paid for it yet. your not gonna be able to do anything fun on that chinese shit. if i were you i would go on craigslist and find you a 125 to play with. suzuki being the crapiest, you want to stick with either yamaha, honda, or kawi. preferably honda because those motors are built to last, yamaha being second choice. a 2 stroke 80 will spank your 200 you know that right?

 

if you get a 2 stroke maintenence is fairly cheap. i can do a full rebuild including getting the cylinder re plated for less then 1000 dollars if you do the work yourself. if you get a 4 stroke your always looking at having issues veryyyyy soon after purchasing it. you know if one grain of sand gets into your tank you will be subject to a full rebuild and your lookin at 2-3g just for that!

id pick up a 250 2 stroke if you know you can handle the power, and when you buy it be sure to ask the owner when is the last time it had a new top end. you want to replace the top end once a year and you should be fine for a long ass time. a top end runs a good 120 bucks. not bad at all.
