Im thinking about getting a bike and i dont know what are the best manufacturers?
The main bikes are TRIUMPH, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Honda and Yamaha. I suggest you start on a 600 which assuming youre wanting a sports bike you'd be looking into a suzuki gsx-r 600, a Kawasaki 636, Honda CBR 600 RR or Yamaha R6. Each one has different features and sits differntly than the other. I suggest you sit on them and just see which one feels best to you. Also recommend that you get a used bike because more than likely you will drop it or go down and would be a shame to get such a new bike and mess it up. Also make frame sliders one of your early investments after gear, can save your bike at low speeds or tips. Personally I like the CBR and the R6 but to each his own. Good luck and ride safe.

Dont rule out the good olde English D675. $8,999 and run circles around any other 600.
Get the cheapest POS you can find. After you stop dropping it, THEN look for a decent bike.
Pros- Shitty bikes are cheap, parts are often easy to find, you wont feel bad when you drop it
Cons- New bikes are better able to take a beating than a bike that's already been beat, but they're expensive. And you'll look like a tool riding around a new bike that you JUST crashed. With new bikes parts are harder to find (because they're changing the models year in and year out).
Seems like you're at it with the wrong mind set. Dont try to find a "nice bike". Try to learn how to survive on the machine first.
That being said, the SV650 is an ideal starter bike. Parts are everywhere, easy to repair, not much plastic to fuck up. Easy to sell when you're done with it. More an upright riding position that is beginner friendly...and yet, with a little modification, you can take it to the track should you decide to keep it.

I'll retract my Ninja 250 vote and vote Vespa instead.
