yeah, you have to have the title in order to get the tag and registration. the dmv wont make it street legal unless you have that title. better get the treasure map out and look for the big X. good luck finding it.

Anything that drives on the roads needs a tag.

I sell 49cc scooters here at my shop. Each one leaves with a tag.

So yes, you need a title to get a tag to drove it on the road.

I think you still need the title. The title is proof that the person that sold it to you had the right to sell it. Not 100% sure. Just make a call to the DMV.

I think anything under 50cc does not require a license to ride, so if you wanted to go ride around your backyard or trail ride it or whatever, go for it. Anything over 50cc does need a license, so a Motorcycle Also endorsement on your normal driver's license for two wheelers. Also, even under 50cc needs a license to carry a passenger.

However, to be street legal you need a tag no matter what the vehicle type, size, displacement, etc. I would assume you need a license for anything with a tag, but who knows with the backwards laws we have on the books, it may actually be legal to ride an under 50cc, tagged vehicle on the street without a license?
