Video: Mountain road in SoCal
One of the guys took a great video today going up just one portion of a mountain road we like to hit.
The video gives you no appreciation for how tight the turns are and how much elevation change there is, but its cool none the less. (A lot of newbs fly their bikes off this mountain way too often, but its a weekly, if not daily affair that newbs wreck on this road)
At some point in the video, you are going to ask yourself, "is this thing over yet or what?" The great part is that as long as the video is, this is just part of the mountain and yes it is all non-stop knee draggin.

The video in the above post was taken today.
Here is a video from yesterday, same road, where some newb trashed his 3 week old 2008 R6. He got lucky and wrecked where he did not propel his bike off the moutain and only ended up with 10 staples in his arm for the puncture would he sustained
Notice how incredibly slower this video is and how not tight the turn was he crashed in. (54 seconds into the video).

I checked out the elevation, from what I could tell on the map, it looks like at the bottom of the mountain the elevation is aprox 600 ft and at the highest point on the road we ride is aprox 3,400 ft.
There is another road we rarely ride on that same mountain because its one lane, but it peaks out at about 4,400 ft.
Its really hard to tell in the video how much the elevation changes.

I'd love to have learned to ride on roads like that.
In your video i saw some sand/gravel though that would probably get me killed around some of those blind corners...

The pavement is actually good, but you do have to keep an eye out for gravel or dirt out on the mountain roads and in the canyons.
Its best to take the 1st pass on the road at a slower clip to "survey" the condition of the road for that day, as it changes on a daily basis. Most of the time, you know which corners "usually" are suspect to having debris.
