Default Rainy season

I was thinking since we are seeing allot of new riders on the road with rising gas prices, the knowledge this forum posses may help new riders in cases like riding in the rain. Post up for the noobs and give a helpful hint/tip on riding in the rain. I'll say this....

Stay out of the middle of the lane when it's first starting to rain, and don't tailgate. Dont try and hold an umbrella either!

yeah, yesterday was my first time getting caught in the rain. completly squiding it too. well i had my lid on. still it sucked. almost had to bail out once when a truck pulled out in front of me and i starting sliding. do you guys think having such a small rear tire (110) makes it harder to drive in the rain?

Best advise is to be smooth. Braking, shifting, accelerating and maneuvering.

Second best advice, have some kind of rain gear with you at all times.

Third best advice is avoid having to ride in the rain.

Last year we go caught in the rain at blood mountain. You'd be surprised how much grip your tires have in the rain.

wear gear and don't lock your brakes over dumb shit.

the rear brake locks up ever worse when its raining than in the dry. meaing its even more usless. stay off from it.

but remember the front won't stop you as fast either and never brake while turning in the rain.... if shit goes down, its almost always better to avoid than to brake, which will cause you to dump the bike and then slide into whatever it was.

as said above, out of the city where the roads are not as random and some are worn smooth, making some slippery and some not. you have quite a bit of grip, just don't do anything sudden.

other than that... buy a car and drive that. its the time of year that it rains every afternoon about 5ish.

oh and if you ride in tampa, stay off waters ave between dale mabry and 275. that shit is like ice when it rains. if you don't crash, some car will slide into you. it happens every day that it rains.

Here's my advice.

Don't ride in the rain.

Tampa can have predictable times it rains, although not every year is the same.

First summer I was in Tampa, it rained at 3 oclock everyday in June. In July it rained at 4 oclock everyday. By August it rained everyday at 5 oclock. The next summer was totally different though!

Keep an eye on the forecast and use that as your "best" offensive/defensive "riding" technique in the rain... which is to avoid it.

Thats good advice on a wet or dry road. Anything painted is slick and I've seen people crash because they were riding the "lines."

A cloud was covering the upper portion of a mountain we were riding a few months ago and the higher we went he misty-er it got. We came around a corner and there was this older guy pinned on the side of the road by his "crotch rocket" CBR 1000.

He came into a corner and took a bad line and was leaning/turning while riding the center line and lost the front.

He was pretty banged up. He ended up breaking his collar bone and was initially in "shock" when we came across him. The part that stunk was he had to ride 2 up back down the mountain with the broken collar bone and the road was very tight and steep.
