hangin' it up for a little while
Too many accidents lately. Doesn't it seem that way? Just the last couple of weeks seem to have been tough for motorcyclists. Just makes me think about not riding for a week or two. A co-worker told me she saw the aftermath of that fatal accident on Hillsborough ave. today, she had called for 911. She was pretty shaken up by the whole thing. And she was worried for me being out there on the roads on the bike. Of course then everyone in the office has to go on and tell me the gruesome and horrible bike accident stories they know.
A few weeks prior I saw what happens when a car plows into the back of a cruiser that was stopped at a light. Not good.
It just got me to thinking that there is bad motorcycle mojo goin' on or something lately...at least more than normal it seems.
Makes a guy stop and think, if you ride long enough...is it the way you'll ultimately meet your maker? Starting to make me wonder if its worth it anymore. I don't know....just gett'n all reflective and junk. Everyone please wear your gear. Be safe.

Nothing new I'm afraid...
The reality is that riding in the city is far more dangerous, and the chances of something going wrong are compounded by the amount of people on the streets during busy work weeks, rush hours & idiots on the road that shouldn't be driving.
That is why I make it a point to 1) not ride in the city, since stop & go traffic take the fun away from riding & 2) avoid riding at night, since that got old and boring for me a long time ago...
It's about the only thing I can do to lessen my chances since I already only do sport rides.

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

It does seem like the motorcycle fatalities come in waves... or at least I seem to hear about a bunch of them all at once. The way I look at it though, every time I get on my bike I have the same odds of something horrible happening. I use my bike as a daily driver almost every day, so I often end up riding in rush hour traffic and God knows I see enough idiots do stupid things every day. I just try to ride as safely as possible as I believe situational awareness goes a LONG way in keeping you alive on a bike. Most accidents can be prevented and/or avoided if you keep your head on a swivel and pay 100% attention 100% of the time. At least, that is what I tell myself so that I can keep enjoying the ride!
its riding season more than ever, high gas prices, hot weather = less gear...
people riding around in the heat not paying attention cuz theyre sweatin balls.
nothing new.

when its my time...it will be my time.
i trust whatever source is out there that i will survive each ride.
i dont worry about death..it makes you not enjoy life anymore.
im ready to die...and im not afraid. so if its my time let it be i just hope its later rather than sooner because i feel i have a lot more living to do...
