Problem starting my zx6
I just bought a 1993 zx6.. first bike in Many years w/o one. I am being forced to sell my twin turbo mustang so I needed something to get the speed out on.
Either way. The person I bought it from didnt speak much english, it was 3am when I picked it up so he didnt want to start it at his house. he offered to go up the street with me and let me hear it run, but I just figured it he was willing to do that, i would trust it ran.. I am begining to think he was bluffing.. Every bike I have had in the past had a gas on/off/reserve switch. This one does not seem to have one. I have 2 good batteries and the starter is crankin like a champ, it just does not appear to be getting gas. I have messed with the nob under the gas tank that seems to be a carb adjustment or something.. there is also a little button that seems like a gas release of some sort but it also doest seem to do much. The bike sounded like it wanted to fire about 10 times.. unsure what I am doing wrong. is there a kickstand kill switch, clutch must be pressed in.. when it does sound like its going to start (for a brief second) it smells too much like gas afterwords. Anyone can help?!

Make sure the bike isnt in gear.
If it smells like gas afterwards maybe the carbs are flooded and they just need a good cleaning.

how long has it been sitting there? if so the engine probably flooded since thats a common thing to carbed bikes. what u want to do is leave the key in OFF position and open the throttle all the way and hold it there for few mins (the longer the better chance of getting it start) and don't let go then with ur other hang turn the key in the ignition into ON position and press the starter button to turn on the bike while holding the throttle open. u should see some smokes and stuff if the engine is flooded. my own technique is duck tape the throttle open and leave it overnight. hope this help if not ,oh well i tried.

I had a 1990 of the same bike... it does not have a reserve knob,,, it has a gas light instead to the right of the gauges.
Open the choke to start... I had to do that with mine...
