Hernando Bike thief caught red handed and arrested last night thanks to my efforts
Late night, Early this morning I was on Countyline road going east bound and saw a motorcycles headlight in my rearview, thinking it might be a friend of mine I pull to the side of the road. He passes and I noticed the taillight wasn't working so there was a truck behind him following close.
So I get behind the truck and proceeded to go around and get behind the bike. The biker started to look behind him. We were coming up to a Circle K on County line RD... He had pulled in and I pulled in as well... I said to him, your taillight isn't working and he replied, really? He then said thanks, I told him your welcome so I pull away. Drive down a block and come back because I had a gut feeling something wasn't right about how he was so nervous ...
So I drive up again and asked did you get the tailight fixed and he replies no and said I lost my plate and don't wanna ride it like this, then he asked if I can follow him to the Hess station on County line and Marriner. He said that a friend worked there so I said, ok....
I proceed to follow him there... We pull into the Hess and he pulls up to he air water supply .... No friend at the station... I get out of the car and he was asking me if I had tools, I said not on me.
So he begins to tell me his bike is all messed up and that a guy stole it and wrecked it.. blah blah blah... I saw it had right fairing damage... So he pops the seat off with out a key, clue even if the ignition was popped he till should have a key for the seat... I look at the ignition and it completly popped and laying broken in the middle.
So I say he really screwed your bike up then I asked can you turn it off and he said yes so he turns it off with the start button but the lights can't go out. He said you have to disconnect the battery. Well he didn't even have a screw driver to do that. Then he is on his cell and I hear him say where are you to the person he was on the phone with and heard him say 41 and 52. Then he is saying he is about to run out of gas and needs some gas to the person on the cell. He seams like he is getting pissed and acting as if he is going to throw the cell on the ground then gets back on the phone and says I did what you told me to do.... another clue...
Then there talking about how big the tank is... Anyway he gets off the phone and he tells me his gas lights on, blah... So I then start asking him a few questions do you have a registration for the bike in case you get pulled over and he said not on me but the bike isn't stolen... Did I ask you if it was stolen? no.... So then I ask when was it stolen from you, Pause.... pause oh, oh about 6 or 8 months ago.... almost a half a year....
Then I ask where do you live? He Replies zephyrhills....
Then I ask him well what are you doing here? Replies I was at a friends.... Ok, then he asks me to follow him down county line road to 41, I'm offering him gas money for some gas but I said I have to go to my house to get it. This way I could call, FHP. He said no I will just meet my friend at 41 and countyline then he asks me if there is a gas station there and I said yes. Now he says he lives in Land o lakes...Ok, clue #3 He asked if I could follow him in case he run out of fuel, again I said sure.
So I follow him at this point I know a few troopers out here so I called FHP and asked for a trooper and he wasn't working so anyway I tell her to go to the Hess on 41 and countyline and told her how i suspected the bike was just stolen.... she said ok and hung up with me to dispatch the units. I then call Hernando County Sheriffs Office, tell her the story and who I was... Told her to have the deputys pull in and act as if they don't know whats going on. Told her what car I was in and so fourth...
Anyway we get to the hess station and I get out of my car and go in while he is waiting for his friend and get some water... Tell the clerk there is fixing to be some deputys outside and the bike is prolly stolen she said, ok....
So anyway as I go out a deputy pulls in.... Blocks the bike and ask the suspect is this your bike he said no its my friends... Lol, really I start asking him really you told me it was yours... Anyway more deputys arrived and a couple of troopers and I knew one of them.
So I told the deputys and troopers the story how this all started. While this was happening the friend pulls up and says his a friend of mine, mean while I know this guy is behind the whole thing but they couldn't even search his car.... I also tell the deputy's the story about a friend of mines bike that was stolen from Walmart about a month ago and how he recovered it in a parking lot... It was Frankies bike by the way..
So then I go up to the guy that was riding the bike and ask him do you have a prior record for theft and he said, years ago then I said are you sure and he says no I have stuff pending from six months ago, really? How about your friend does he have a record he replie's no I don't think so. The man was arrested for stealing the bike and the owners father had to come to get the bike because his son is in the military.
The father came and thanked me for my efforts.. The bike was a blue Triumph like a 03, 04 style. The owner that owns it is named Jason. The father sadi they used bolt cutters to get thru the gate.
The thief also told me that his name was John, and the Deputy to me it wasn't his name. He also was lieing to the cops telling them that a friend gave him the bike and his name was Brian. That also wasn't tru.... Go figure...
Anyway I'm glad the owner has his bike back.
