Default Lunch Lady Hit My Car

So, yea. I was at work and apparently a lunch lady hit my car, drove off, and then came back. Some construction worker saw it, and found me. Lady doesn't speak english, so I got another lunch lady to translate. Not really much damage, but I got her insurance info and whatnot. I filed a claims policy with her insurance, but I was wondering how this works. Has anyone been in this situation before, where an insurance company had to make a claim and pay you? Please LMK anything that would be useful.

Yes, I know this is in a bike forum...

Always call the police so that there is a report taken, you want to have proof that the incident actually happened if they decide to be assholes about it later on. Otherwise it's your word against theirs.

estimated damage? whats YOUR deductible? FL is a no-fault state, and from what i understand you go through YOUR insurance company, if the damage exceeds your deductible YOUR insurance will pay u, then go after the other company for reimbursement *i think*. Google FL insurance policy? Someone here i KNOW works for Progressive, we hav elike a bajillion of these peeps on this board, if no one chimes in here post it on TF where they ALL lurk

That's right, you go through your own insurance agency first. They'll estimate the damages and cut you a check for that amount minus your deductible. Then, your insurance company goes after her insurance company for reimbursement of the amount of the check they wrote you.

Well, I called the lady's insurance company and they said that I didn't need a police report, it was good to have, but not necessary. I talked to the lady's husband and he understood what was going on. I have a witness, and if she wants to be a bitch, then I could get her for fleeing the scene, because she left. The company said that they were going to call and arrange a meeting to where they could come and assess the damage. I think that I will say that I don't want it painted, because it will look like crap. I'm gonna try and get a new bumper out of this (even though it really doesn't need to be replaced). Thanks for your input so far everyone. Keep the info flowin'.

Even if I wasn't driving? I thought their insurance covered it...

I wouldn't even mention it to your insurance company. No need for your rates to go up when its not your fault. Let hers handle it. In the mean time have a shop look at and give you an estimate in case her insurance company tries to low ball you.

wow!

no fault has nothing to do with damage to your vehicle. "no fault" aka PIP states that no matter who is at fault in an accident each persons insurance pays the 1st 10k in medical expenses.

best way to go about it is to report a claim with the ladies insurance then take your car to the dealership. the dealership and her insurance will go back and forth on how much the repairs will be and you will end up winning. dont report it to your insurance...its a waste of time, energy, and money.
