Default Next big trip to JenningsGP idea.

So I have noticed that when a big TR trip to Jennings is posted everyone wants to go. But a big hinderence I've noticed is the lack of available trailers. So i was talking to my father about it the other day ( he's a truck driver now that own's his own Tractor and trailer) and I came up with an idea.

Using my dads truck to transport bikes, tools, tires and coolers when everyone wants to go. Then it wont be a matter of getting a trailer that decides who goes.

The trailer is a Regrigerator unit and come with a special bottom floor that can make it easy to strap bike down securely so theres no need to worry about bike moving around.

Of course it is cheaper for everyone who would want to use this idea for movin the bikes around if mopre people participated to spread the cost. We also lack the straps but there not that expensive.

I thought it was a good a idea, but what do you guys think?

its a good idea. problem with that though is if some of the riders want to go home early their stuck waiting till the end of the day. but even with a bunch of riders i dont see it bein very cheap.

nah it would, be since were private we can charge down to where everyone is paying only for fuel and barely any profit. like i said its better if a lot of people did it at once and spread the cost.

this probably would only happen ever so often. im just offering the idea up.

but yea people waiting would be a problem though.

Sounds like an idea at the least...Ricksta bring's forward a common problem when riding with others...If we were all on this rig, it would be common sense knowing your staying for the entire day once we hit the road...

I've got my own ways to get there so I wouldn't make use of this. If you had enough people that wanted to do it it's not a bad idea.

Each bike should have 4 cam lock straps and a pair of plastic wheel chocks. Put the wheel chocks in front of and behind the front tire. That will take care of most of the fore and aft stabilization. The straps are mainly to keep the bikes from falling over. We haul up to four bikes in a 25ft toy hauler using this method.

Another word of advice, be sure to keep the the straps dry. Wet straps will slip in the cam lock mechanisms and can allow the bikes to fall over. We haven't lost one yet, but we've stopped to find bikes leaning over pretty far due to wet straps. In a closed trailer you can't just check the rearview mirror to see this as it happens.

At Jennings you're going to want at least one EZ-UP style 10x10 (or larger) canopy for every two bikes. Three bikes on one pit pad gets pretty crowded. Someone needs to bring a broom and you'll want a fan on each pit pad too.

Riding gear fits nicely inside large totes, which should probably ride in the trailer too, to make more room for people in the vehicles that the riders are going in.

It could be a decent setup, but for anyone that goes on a regular basis, they're going to want to find a way to get themselves there with the stuff they need. Just about any car can pull an open utility trailer. Two bikes, totes, an EZ-UP broom, etc. can fit nicely on an 8x5 open utility trailer. You can find one for between $300 and $800 pretty easily. I've pulled that setup behind a four cylinder Subaru with no complaints at all.

Personally I wouldn't take on the liability of transporting other peoples bikes and equipment without a decent profit motive involved, but if it's what you want to do, then more power to you. It can certainly be done in a way that people will want to take advantage of the service. You'll probably want to figure out the number of bikes and associate equipment that you'll need to take on in order to meet a target price per rider, then start planning your trip as early as possible.

i think its a great idea...everbody is still gonna hafta drive up though...you wouldnt have to wait for anyone...have someone load your shit up for you and you will get your bike back when everyone else returns...not a bad idea...
