So I'm in LA for the week and everyone here splits lanes... or more like they just ride in the center all the time. I wish we could do this in FL... What does everyone think about this?

 

Wouldn't bother me one way or the other to see others do it... but I certainly wouldn't care if we can or can not cause I avoid riding in traffic like its the plague.

 

You cannot ride in LA without lane splitting.

Just a fact of life there.

Only thing is I don't recomend lane splitting against on coming traffic.

If you ever see someone do it, for example the guy riding in front of you, it will blow your mind!

 

im my country we just act like theres no lanes at all. taxi drivers bob and weave like its need for speed. im still not sure what lane splitting is but sounds like fun

 

Haven't seen that yet, but doesn't sound legal or smart.

 

i;ve alway lane splitting but only if its very low traffic jam that other can't change lane instantly without u noticed. another word i only lane splitting when theres noe spaces between cars. back in my squid day i used to wheelie while splitting..

 

I think lane splitting is too dangerous to legalize. Riders have a bad enough time with people pulling out infront of them as it is, and I believe lane splitting would just increase the number of accidents involving riders. Even in bumper to bumper traffic, people change lanes quite often, and legalizing this would pose an increased hazard to cagers and riders alike.

I think lane splitting is retarded at high rates of speed, but in dead stop traffic, i HAVE to lane split, because my CBR doesnt have a cooling fan, so if i dont split the lanes then i overheat, but on my zx6r, it has the fan so ill still only split lanes if its in dead stop traffic, but even then im hesitant becuase i have actually had a guy in orlando try and pull in front of me and cut of the middle lane because he was being a dick.

 

Actually, if you look at the statistics, There is absolutely no evidence to suggest that lane splitting is any more or less dangerous than other maneouvers on the road. Ask anyone that lives in CA.

Personally, when two cars drive side by side, in what seems to be a deliberate attempt to block me, i flash my high beams at em, then blast between them. Pisses me off.

 

I've cracked one mirror and took one mirror completely off with my fore arm due to drivers being dicks while I'm lane spliting. The one that completely lost his mirror was a Jeep SUV that desided to try to sqeeze me into the car next to him !!!

I VERY rarely do it while moving though. If traffic is just stupid, I'll split to the front of the redlight causing the issue. If I'm not going to be waiting at the redlight more than once, I don't mind just waiting in traffic; its those times when your at the same light like 3 times before barely getting through it that I just split to the front.

Really, I think it should be legallize peroid, at redlights. I mean, what out accels a bike without trying ? Nothing. But.... I also think bikes shouldn't be required to pay tolls, I mean, how much are we really beating that road up ? A 480LBS. bike pays the same as a 6500LBS. truck ? What ever. I've also heard a lot of places don't charge bikes at tolls to help encourge more people to ride motorcycles instead of cars/trucks.

BTW, anyone know if its illegal to ride with headphones in ? I know its illegal to do it in a car/truck.
