Im on Dunlop AMA race tires (KR N-Tecs) and i had a 125 front and a 195 rear, those tires were huge!
To translate what that graph up there means to anyone who doesnt know, the sharper profile tires (180's) offer better handling, and the 190s have larger contact patches which give more grip.

Interesting graphic but I guess its generic as each tire would have a differnt profile depending on brand and model. I prefer the 180/55 and would like to try the 190/55 when they come out int he pp or the 2ct. 190/50 is pretty flat in comparison.

on what size rim is that based off of? If it doesnt matter then by the looks of that the 180/55 would turn in better than the 190/50, but you would run out of tire sooner.
I've been told that's not so, so please, someone explain to me why that's not true.

yeah you can out a 180 on to wide of rim and screw it all up... 180/55 on a 6.5in rim is bad.

The idea is not to compare across brands, since each will have their own profile diff, but it is a good indication of what to expect, when considering tire size from the same brand...
I personally don't think a 180/55 will retain its shape in a 5.5" rim when mounted on a 6". What I have been searching for because common sense tells me the tire has to stretch a bit to reach the bead on a 6" rim.
I plan on trying a 190/55 when they come out, but for now I still run 190/50's. I don't believe the 180 tires on a 6" rim a better alternative than lowering the front 5-10mm to quicken it's steering & front end feedback...

Higher Profile Tire's> Allow Dropping into the Corner easier but, make Mid-Corner Corrections Harder Vs Lower Profile(Rounder) Tires, Turning in Easier and Mid-Corner Corrections smoother.
50 vs. 55 > 55 less 'Swelling' on accelleration! or it might be the other way around.

the tires are pretty stiff, i really doubt there is much if any swelling at higher tire rpm.
from the looks of that graph, your definately not going to get the lean angle out of the 190-50 that you would from the 190-55. but as someone said, the more agressive ramp profile of the 55 would make it a little more difficult for mid turn correction aswell as working some S's. the 190-50, while not getting the full lean angle, seems to be a more "flickable" tire.
