Default DMV Riding Test

So, who's taken it? I went and 'attempted' today and failed. What sucks is the course seems to be setup for a 50cc bike, not any normal sized bikes.

I have been riding for a long time and I am fairly confident in my abilities to ride. I don't do anything stupid, but I am very aware of what I need/should/would do if and when something happens.

I had absolutely no problems till the zig zag portion of the test. The 90 degress turn was stupid as there was only like 2 feet wide worth of space to move, but it was easy enough. But in my books, it's almost impossible to do the zig zag, the spacing are completely to close, where I have no room to even pickup speed to complete the course. At the rate of speed you have to do the zig zag in, I stalled due to no speed and put my foot down.

Anyone want to loan me a 51cc motorcycle?

Any suggestions, tricks, etc? Going again tomorrow.

I did it on my 1000... the easy way is to cheat... skip the second to last cone in the zig zag and you should have no problems no mater what you ride.

It's been about 5 years since I did that test. I didn't own a bike, borrowed a buddies CBR F3 and just took it. I don't remember anything particularly difficult about it. In fact there was another guy there taking it on a Goldwing. He passed too as I recall.

FYI - Better be careful about going to Daytona without a license. The cops there LOVE to screw with the sportbikers.

I have a permit, which will be plenty enough for me to ride out.

As for a Gold Wing making it, I think it's highly unlikely. There's maybe 4 feet or less of space between the cones and the cones are offsetted. Like I said, I know how to ride (knowing how to ride does not mean I do wheelies, endos, etc) and it's almost impossible to do it. I wil be there tomorrow, I will take measurements...haahhahahahahaa

You get less points if you just drive straight through all the cones then putting your foot down.

Also to keep stable drag your rear brake, sounds funny but try it, helps to keep the bike right where you want it. Clutch control is also key. Being a good rider doesnt make the test any easier! Its designed to test you at slow speeds where its harder to handle the bike.

its all about clutch slippage. Sort of like driving a car onto a lift in your shop or something, just ride the course with enough momentum to keep the bike upright and LOOK WHERE YOU WANT TO GO, not where you are going. Teh bike will follow your eyes, you know this already Im sure, but sometimes one forgets in a stressful situation like a road test. When your doing the figure 8 or whatev, when you reach the point where you need to initiate the turn turn your head over your shoulder and look at where you want to be headed after you complete the u-turn, your mind will control the bike but your eyes will be directing it.
