Default Phantom Tracking

First off, I know there was another post about the Phantom Tracking system, but that one kinda died and I had some more questions about it.

The Phantom website listed Barney's and Pure Acceleration as offical dealers/installers of their product, however, I stopped by Barneys in Brandon and was told the system would cost $1,000 and that they won't install them anymore. Apparently, they has some sort of fire start on a bike that they installed the system on and are no longer putting them on bikes. I am waiting to hear back from Pure Acceleration (sent them an email), as I stopped by their shop today and it was locked up and lights off.

Could someone suggest where I could get this installed at and possibly where I might find this any cheaper? I saw that one poster said that he got it for a bit less, but does anyone else have any experience with these, or know where I could look to find out? This doesn't seem to be a brand new system, but I don't ever hear anything about it.

Also, what do you guys see as "pros and cons" to this system? Obviously it is pretty expensive, but any other comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

Chris

I have the system installed on my bike. The up side is that the bike is protected 100% of the time. You could leave your bike on the corner of Nebraska and 21st over-night and you would know 10 seconds after someone touched it. Better yet, the cops would know 2 minutes after someone threw it in the back of their truck and would have a GPS track of where it is regardless of whether or not Phantom could get in touch with you.

The down side is that the system is not easy to install, in fact Phantom will only let a certified tech install it, so you cannot just go pick it up and install it yourself. Also, it is very important that the system does not lose power once it is installed as it is extremely difficult to reset. If it does lose power you will not be able to start your bike or disarm the system until you tow it into the dealer that installed it so they can work with Phantom to reset it. A GIANT pain in the ass when you cannot ride your own damn bike. Then again, I just keep mine on a battery charger when I am not riding it for a couple of days to make sure this does not happen again.

By the way, Barney's no longer installs them because the Phantom consultant that they used to have on staff no longer works there. They have also had multiple complaints about the installs (mine shorted out my ECU and caused $1,200 in damage that Barney's had to cover), so they are done trying to support the system now that their Phantom guy is gone.

The biggest up side, for me, to having the system would be that not only is the bike protected...but it gives me the added satisfaction that the jerkass who was trying to steal it might actually get caught. And face it, you can't really replace the bike you have now (although a brand new one might be ok).

I guess I will check the Phantom site again for any other dealers in the area that can do the install, and wait to hear back from Pure Acceleration. Thanks for your help guys.
