FWIW, with R compound tires it is even more important that they be properly warmed up (and to higher temperatures) before they're expected to stick. I understand the desire for more traction, but if I understand what happened in your crash, I don't think this is the right way to go. I don't know what tires you have on the bike now, but you may consider the Pilot Power or another good street tire that is known for quick warm up.

For your plastics, if you have all the pieces, take some photos and send them to the guys at EmpireGP. They do plastic repair, and it seems that they're very good at it. I managed to get the parts I needed on eBay for a bit less that having them fixed, but it was definitely a consideration. They'll give you a quote based on your pictures.

Sorry to hear about the crash. I'm putting my SV1000S back together after my dad crashed it over Thanksgiving. I'm about done with the mechanical work. It'll be time for paint real soon. Good luck!
