Rossi Wins in Monza.....
I still think the the TT race is crazier than the F1 on those small streets. The F1 car has a very strong roll cage to protect the driver. I think. I could be wrong though but I know that most of the bad wrecks in those kinds of cars the driver sometimes lose their legs but they survive alot of the time.
im trying to find a good video to show you of toyta testing at leguna seca

Thanks Longfellow... how fast are they going in that video? It's gotta be extremely fast because he's using the whole track to keep his lines but on the chicanes he can barely stay on the track.... looks like a very technical type of racing. Do they ever race more than one car at a time or is it all based on lap times?
Cool video...also, what size motors do they use?

During a race there are about 27 cars full out depending on if all start.
Motors used to be v12's then they cut them down to v10's and now they are 2.8 liter v8's with a 18,000 redline. (honda v10's used to spin all the way to 21,000 rpms!
) they put down about 700hp, and i think they have 7 forward gears. i heard somewhere that the motor only runs with 1 quart of oil in it and has an external drysump oil system that holds the rest.Recent restrictions have limited power output.
cool little fact about F1 cars is that the aero design of the car creats 4500+ lbs of down force above a certin mph (i fotgot how high i think about over 130) and the car only weighs 1300 give or take a few. So technicaly they can drive inverted and they would stick to the ceiling of a tunnel if they had a ramp designed to let them do so.
your right about being a very techincal type of racing. every aspect of the car is moniterd and they can make most of the adjustments on the cars just using a computer.
Its an awesome thing to watch, i didnt watch all the video i posted but on some camera angles they go so fast around a turn that it almost looks unreal, as if it were actuly stuck on railings.

Looks like we got ourselves a new F1 fan.

Can't go wrong with over 700hp coming from 2.4 liters of pure sex at 20k RPMs. Oh, and don't forget, their steering wheels cost $50k, they create about a pound of boost on a N/A motor, and they idle at 7k RPMs.
You know, it's cool to see companies like Honda making 100hp/L in street cars, but member when it used to be a nice turbo'd 1000hp/L in F1?
Let's not pass up these classics:
This one's a computer-based engine parameters run-down program where it goes through the RPM's to check itself...
F1 Engine fire up - Google Video
McLaren F1 Car vs Mercedes Road Cars (Coulthard) - Google Video
Oh, and one more:
I know you like how the fuel injectors spray into the velocity stacks....
