Why is it everyone says be careful when you get a new rear tire?

the new tire surface is pretty damn slick so you have las traction untill that slick film or w/e is warn off. when ever i get my tires changed ill usually go down the road and swerve off and on to kinda get it all off..but i imagine a healthy burnout will do the trick

There is oil shit on the tire when it is new. You're suppose to be careful on it for 50 miles or so. And it definitely goes for the front tire as well. burnouts don't do much for the sides of the tire, and i don't know about you guys but IMO burnouts are for special occasions. Tires are too expensive (to me at least) to just turn into smoke, not that i'm not guilty of doing so, but i've learned since my days as a squid.

above answeres are correct about the film that's on the tire. Just scuff it up a bit when the tires is heated around some corners and on ramps. Shit of that nature gets it off quick.

Its a parting agent used to remove the tire from the mold. Put a few quick heat cycles through it and it will come off, you dont need to scuff the whole tire in for the agent to come off, simply getting them hot will do the same thing. If your worried I have heard of people using scotch bright and other light abrasive materials to rub it off manualy but damn that would take a while.

brake clean and a rag works too but its not needed, just ride the bike normal for a bit.

you can see as it wears off, if you look at the tire.

Are there any side effects to the "brake clean" method?

A good buzz and a ruined towel.

Dunno, I just ride it off. A couple easy laps around Jennings does the trick.

no clue, never done it and don't think i would.

its not really needed... only side effect i could think of would be maybe drying out the tire some. i've also heard of people spinning the tire in the grass, its better than a real burn out because it gets the whole tire and doesn't wear it any.

but as said... all of this isn't needed.
