Hey guys... this is for the guys that were interested in doing the Dragon Loop later this month.

I just got back from a loooooong day on the road. Left @ 10:45 from Cleveland, TN & headed to the Dragon. Got there going across the skyway, my fav road.

The weather was... well, the skys where gorgeous. It however was supposed to be 69deg, in some square inch near Clev. TN. But when I hit the mountains I swear the temps dropped 20 deg.

That made for a very cold ride. I had warm gear on, except for gloves. I thought my leather riding gloves & cotton glove liners would be enough. It wasn't, I had to stop frequently to thaw my fingers. I literary rode till I felt them no more & had to stop. That shit actually hurts.

So, in short. It is facking cold in the mountains. Also, this has got to be the worst exp I had at the Dragon. It was very crowded. I was trying to be civil, & not pass in turns. But I was the only one... I had people actually taking up my space Making me change lines in & out of turns,,, crazy!!! It's a good thing I had my wife with me, or I may have been a victim or RR.

Enough of that shit.. just setting up your expectations, not that any of that will scare any of you away.

Hotels... I found some Hotel\Motels in Clev. Anywhere from $29-$59 a night. If you are looking to split room costs, then forget about then expect more like $39-$59... Not bad... King beds are available, so Joe & Mike need not worry about sleeping appart Jusk Kidding fellows... The Hotels are close to my Mother in laws house, so we have a place for the bikes to sleep in. We'll need to make a bit of room in her Garage, but it'll be EZ to do. There are food joints all around the hotel\motels, so it looks like the perfect spot since there are other roads around the Area that we can hit on more than one occasion.

Well... there you have it... when I get back I am going to look at my work schedule & start checkin in to see what yours looks like...

Well I managed to do 1 better guys...

We also have the following option. For $30 a head, per night. My mother in law has agreed to let us have the 1/2 of the house. Essentially it is a huge room with private bathroom & entrance. This would not only save us a bit of money but also, help her as well cause she could use the money.

She has DirectTV, wireless internet access, plenty of driveway for the vehicles & I think I already mentioned the Garage. Just an option guys. If you are concerned about space, it is huge don't worry.

id be in on the house thing fsho....either way, sounds good...i think we better do it soon though, it may just get too friggin cold!

 

Yeah... I think our timing is a bit late also... It would be perfect to make this trip during one of the 2 luv bug sessions we get during the year...

I am going to remain optimistic, I had a sweatshirt & a textile jacket on, & I stayed warm... just need to invest in real cold weather riding gloves & it would have been a better ride...

I just need to get back & I need to make sure I can take time off in the next couple of weeks & see how many want to make the trip...

 

just to add a quick .02..


I just checked out that skyway road on my way home this sunday... its a really nice road, well other than the slow bike guys that were in my way...lol.

I would say this run would be for very good riders only, the one road was longer than our whole north run...lol. it seemed to have some tricky/blind, long sweepers. I saw lots of black marks from bikes locking up. I had a blast in my car but kinda sucked I couldn't find anything fast to tag with.


I got stuck in a 2 hour back up because of some road work on the way there, so it was getting dark and I didn't make it to the gap itself but I will in may, for sure (in cars)


don't want this to sound like I'm trying to rain on your plans at all cause I'm sure you will have fun, but after seeing it, I'm going to say jennings is closer and if you camp out, should be about the same money... the skyway would make for a nice ride but I wouldn't push it out there on a bike like I would on a track or even a north run.... now a car, yeah because you can slide it all around and have fun, a bike doesn't really have that room for error.


either way guys if you go... dress warm and wear lots of gear and don't do like the group of guys I was following for a few corners and be on the brakes in the middle of corners..lol.

I been on the skyway x2, and I agree with all you had to say. The road will draw you into pushing hard, almost spellbinding. I personally like it better than the dragon.

But I will be leading the guys, so if we do this, I'll keep them at a safe pace.
