Default New BIkE

~~>Wassup,

Well after months of searching, I found a bike, I now own a 01 yammy r6, she needs work and I need some imput from the Ahem,, Heroes, pro, High powered Cycle gods, that reside here in the Forum... TSK, TSK... !st my boy was saying the mike needs new plugs, when I first joy rided her last week she sounded like Crap... Been riding her locally around the block, short distances, each day slowing breaking into her, and she is running even better... What I mean is when I 1st rode her I had to choke the hell out of her, and twist the throttle a bit to keep her going in 1st... I think either she had sat to long or she has some cheap gas in her... Gonna put super juice in her when she is dry... Also, my friend, I bought the bike from, has no clue, where the oil guage is on this bike, I have dug around online only to get stupid adds about yammy's or some stupid chit chat about something else, if anyone has a good website for mechanic technical info on yammy r6's please share... Anyhow I found a guage on the left farring that looks like it might be the oil guage, it only seems pretty obvious, but I have screwed up assuming before anyone know if this is the oil guage or not? If so does it have to say FULL? Or can it be half to 3 quarters up? I am guessing this bike is gonna burn oil on long rides with the RPM, and Small engine... ALso another funny thing with this bike... When I went to see her last week she had no front brakes... I rode her around Saturday, and poof she has front brakes again??? My friend was saying the cylinoyd was out?? Anyhow I am just trying to cover my ass, taking it to the deal next week, I don't want to tell them anything I know of, with it being wrong I want them to tell me without trying to find extra's... Anyhow I am hoping some can answer these questions... OH and finally, since I have already seen the Hoodlums checking my bikeout, I HAVE TO KEEP HER out in my apt. parking lot what is the best cost effective security systems we can get? Thinking of chaining her to a damn post I guess... I dunno...

Dude, it's really hard to read your typing.

As far as the oil guage goes, bikes don't have them. Your bike should have a sight glass on the right side of the engine near the bottom. Usually, the bike needs to be OFF the sidestand to get an accurate reading.

sounds like you need your carbs rebuilt if its barely running and needing choke a lot, thats something normal that you should expect as maintenence

watch out for bikes in a apartment complex, those are the ones that get stolen 24/7

don't know what to day about the front brake issue

It might not have a sight glass, but a small dipstick on the lower right side, My 00 R6 did, dont remember when they changed it to a sight glass.
It does sound like the carbs could use some work, If it did sit too long they definatley should be gone thru, Not too big of a deal to do. I would do plugs as well since they will be right there while your doing the carbs.
As far as the front brakes go, I have no idea either unles one or more of the brake cylinders where sticking and worked free or something, but whatever it is I would definatley have that check out thoughly before I rode it too much.
Like it was said before, Apts are the worst for bike theft, If you cant roll it inside or get a garage you are just going to have to take your chances leaving it out. Chaining it to a pole will help as will a rotor lock also, but if they want it bad enough its going to get stolen either way.

A. Get a storage unit if you want the bike not to get stolen.

B. Stop riding the bike untill it is fully checked out.

C. Have someone clean the carbs. or maybe even rebuild.

D. Check pads and calipers, then flush the brake fluid, refill with fresh fluid and bleed brakes.

like they said, no oil gauge persay, dipstick or sight glass. no brake solenoid either, but maybe a bad master cylinder. it could just be really low on fluid too, pads may need to be checked as well. try some sort of carb cleaner in the gas, but the best is a rebuild of them.
