One Collective effort...
Yeah media I didn't think of that... It would require allot of work by the team that was to take this on I have never set anything like this up so I don't know where to start but whoever does it has my full support in whatever way I can help
every person that has been down, will account for it wouldnt have had there gear on, they wouldnt be here. I am one of those people, i never was always geared up, but i very rarely left with out my helmet. and thats going to be the time something happens.
If it wasnt that i had my helemt on that day, i would not be typeing this. Other people will tell you the same about when they went down.
Moldy just went down, on a turn i bet he takes about 6-10 times a week, and that one day he went with out the jacket, boom.
People will talk there ass off about gear, people will post up pictures, talk about what happened to them, and nothing clicks.....until it happens to them, and if they are lucky, the next time they take the bike out, they will be geared up.
so its kinda those " I can show you, better than i can tell you" type deals.
One thing that will always have me geared up, is from the storys my friends and my brother tell me about my parents in the ICU. Both my parents were in the army, my dad went to war, has killed people, and have seen people get killed. so he is not weak by any means, mentally or physically.when my brother finally got up to the hospital and went to the icu waiting room, my dad couldnt even stand. the day they finaly took me out of the induced coma, was the day they were going to physically remove my mom from the hospital, cause she did not leave and wouldnt leave until i talked to her, that was on the 10th day. My family back home in Puerto Rico, where on the next flight out, my uncle at the airport passed out
My uncle that is in Iraq on his 3rd tour, was on the next flight and took his only leave he had left to come home for 3 days.
Cecil went to the hospital, i believe, not sure if he seen my family.
But just all that, not even accounting of what i had to go through, finding out about my leg, 3 more surguries, the pain, just all the other shit that i had to go through, still having to go through
so could you imangine if i didnt have my helmet on that day, from now on its all the gear or nop ride

And Those Are The Examples That Could Change The Mentalities Of These Noob Riders... If People That Have Been Riding For Years Have Stuff Like This Happen Maybe It Could Do Something... Many Of Us Here Are Active Riders (unlike Myself) And Others Are Very Involved In The Forums And Even Though I Would Not Recognize Most Of You In Person I Know Your Story And I Know Who You Are Here On The Forums... Until These People Get On Here And Join The Rest Of Us These Casulties Will Continue... Putting The Word Out About These Forums Is Great But Its Just Not Getting Out To All The Others...

I face planted after flying approx 30 feet. I had a good bump on my head but the helmet did its job.

I've been reading and posting on this forum for a few months now and all the rider down threads and the stories of hearing people come through because of thier gear has got me commited to wearing all my equipment. And Who ever said your not the only one affected when you go down is absolutely right. My dad had a bad motorcycle accident in 92' when he crashed his bike. It ripped my family apart. And I wont have the same thing happen to me and my wife. No way.
So how do we get started with this whole thing? We could talk forever about it, but untill someone takes the first step its still just an idea. How do the stunt shows and things usually get started? As for media. I see the local news report on some dumb ass stories all the time. Im sure if we made a call to a local station and explained to them what we want. They would come especially since they always show up for the accidents. Would be a good change of pace. I'm sure radio would plug the event too if we gave one of the early morning shows a call.

That could work for advertisement... But what do we do first? Location? Supporters (local shops, MSF, etc.)? I would guess that we would need to make a good presentation maybe on dvd or something and send that out to the news, shops, and biker friendly businesses and resturaunts... Has anybody tried doing anything like this or maybe you have seen some presentations or requests for support and you could give some insight as to what they look for.

I do do agree with you on that...
However I still feel taking action is something that needs to be done. What I would like to show people is that it does happen to you me and everybody else out there... Maybe with some proof, broken helmets, wrecked bikes, torn jackets, family members, supporters of motorcycle safety, and so on... Not so much showing that riding is going to kill you, just that riding irresponsibly can kill you, and if you let it, it will. I don't see this as being a large scale mass funeral rememberance, but one big life lesson, not one that has to be learned by your own fault but learned from others. Kind of like an educational celebration of life and riding. We all know that every motorcycle accident does not make it into the papers or the news, but if we put them out there for people to see and touch then it might be the wake up call that they need.
I don't want to beat a dead horse with this so if the general idea is that simply setting the example alone is enough then that is fine... I just wish there was more that could be done.
Thanks for your posts everybody

It would be somber, but if it effects one person enough to make them wear the gear, then it was worth it.
