...heard the most bizarre thing today...
alright so i was at powersports looking at a new RC51 to get onto, and i figured id have a hard time getting it cause im a paper ghost. but i sit on it, and feel it out some and it is TOTALLY different then the SV...like absurdly, i had my weight basically on my arms, where the sv its partially on my arms but im not stretched over the tank to reach the bars. but anywho..the guy showing me the bike is telling me how bad ass it is...and i made the comment it was comparable to a GSXR-600 as far as power went (it makes like 120/80 stock)...he looks at me like im a moron and replied with and i quote "Show me another bike that will pull the wheel up in 5th gear" i had to ask twice if he was referring to the RC and then shook my head in disbelief...now i may be just totally ignorant but my belief right at this moment, is that bike will never get the wheel up in 5th unless its geared, or someone drops that clutch hard...but this sales guy was very adiment about it standing up in 5th...i just dont see that ever happening...am i missing something?

I don't ride, but my friends do and they had a VFR and a 996 Superhawk (the superhawk I think is a close relative to the RC51) Anyway, they both swear by the V motor honda's and the crazy torque they give.
My friend that had the Superhawk is a big guy (6-2 320) and when he got it he came out of a turn in second gear and it just stood right up on him. He swears he wasn't trying to get it up, he just easily rolled into the throttle.
They both swear the V motors are very ridable bikes because they make alot of power down low, perfect for in town riding.

The thing is a torque monster, but IDK about 5th gear, stock..Even geared that's a high ass gear to bring it up with.

thats why i like the v twins dave, in town i dont have to wind the rpm's out...with the SV i can cruise around at 3500 or so and its just fine. but still, i wouldnt doubt 1st, 2nd and maybe 3rd it could bring it up...but 5th is just too far fetch'd

A really good stunter could get one to wheelie in 5th gear I'd bet. Stand on the back pegs and clutch the shit out of it.
The RC makes good power but still needs to be revved similiar to an I4. The new literbikes make more torque, even down low, than the RC does.

It's cause the guy you were talking to at Powersports is a salesman. Although, a really good wheelie-r could prolly get it up in 6th. I know my friend Tom said his buddy can get a bike up in 6th at like city cruising speeds, haha.
And the weight on the arms issue; welcome to a full out supersport. The SV is only a sport. Hump the tank and you'll be good.

my buddies got a 996 and he can do a mid range clutch up in 4th gear , so i have no doubt it can be clutched up in 5th gear with some effort and experience... Now if you were talking to Andy , who is the floor sales manager at west coast .. I will tell u he is very good at wheelies...Hes not necessarily the best when it comes to twisties , but he knows how to throw a bike up.. so if it was him telling you that , ide give it a bit more credit then some of the other dumbasses they have working there.
