I'd reccomend the Pilot Powers or any good "street" tire for your first few trackdays. That way you can still ride them on the street as well as the track and you can get a set for $250 or less. You'll have plenty of traction, dragging knees and running well into the :20s is easily possible. I ran Bt-010's my first trackday and turned my pegfeelers into nubs all day long.
Check out the closeout section at www.newenough.com for all the gear. If you already have a leather jacket, you can get some leather pants and use it as a 2-piece suit.

slicks would be a complete waste of money your first track day. if i were you, i would run the pilot powers, its a great tire until you run below 1:25. Since you probably dont believe me ill tell you why. Price: Slicks will run you well over $450, and you must run tire warmers (another $450) on them to prevent a million heat cycles (will explain that later) and to get the best out of it, you must run below a 1:25 consistantly to even generate enough heat to use that tire the way its supposed to. Race tires are totally different from street tires, where as street tires the life is based apon wear, race tires are mainly based apon heat cycles, then tire wear. If you go out on a cold tire, the tire will cold tear, which is horrible for the tire, and then it will go through a heat cycle, and when you come back to the pits, the tire will cool off, and go through a heat cycle. Do that 3 sessions, are that race tire is pretty much useless.
Now, why street tires are ideal for track days: First of all, they are really cheap, and there is no such thing as heat cycles for street tires, that thing will heat up in one lap around jennings and stay hot all day. Where as you need about 12 laps (2 sessions) around jennings to get a race tire up to grip with warmers on them. you will get maximum grip from that street tire in one lap. On top of that, street tires can go through atleast 5 track days and 2000 miles, i swear i've done it.
Hope that clearifies it, and if you already knew that info, then maybe some1 else didnt! -Manny

you should give pirelli a chance, i rode on pilot powers they're ok... i liked the S2's better then the pilot powers, but i have only tried the supercorsa's from pirelli (i was hooked) i'm sure the diablo corsas are just as good

Wow... I had no idea. Thanks for the info Manny. Guess I'll stick to the pilot powers then.
