MESA - A 19-year-old motorcyclist died in a crash this afternoon after he popped a wheelie in front of an officer and sped off at more than 100 mph before hitting a vehicle, police said.
Ryan Golembewski of Mesa pulled up alongside Mesa school resource officer Jason Coon, who was on a bicycle, made eye contact then sped off east on Brown Road near Power Road shortly before 3 p.m., Mesa police Detective Tim Gaffney said.
About a quarter mile away, a 1999 Kia Sportage driven by a 16-year-old girl was turning south on Sterling to enter Red Mountain Park when the motorcycle collided with it.
Golembewski was thrown about 130 feet into the desert and was dead at the scene, police said.
The 16-year-old driver told police she didn't see the motorcyclist until he struck her vehicle.
"It appears speed was the sole factor," Gaffney said.
This is the 10th traffic-related death this year in Mesa in nine crashes. Mesa finished 2005 with a record 66 traffic fatalities.

One of the consequences of such notions as "entitlements" is that people who have contributed nothing to society feel that society owes them something, apparently just for being nice enough to grace us with their presence.”

Oh, and RIP as difficult as it is to say without saying anyting else.
The kid was 19...I'm not saying everyone who's 19 isn't responsible, but a motorcycle is something you have to be responsible to drive and stay alive. RIP, think about your family before you go and speed down a busy road, think about how much you'll be letting them down...i just experienced this shit first hand when my best friend died at the beginning of the year. Drive safe guys and ladies.

Happens all of the time. Somtimes it isn't the car's fault only because he pulled out. Sometimes the bike really is just going TOO fast to be seen early enough
