Moderator Guidelines

The role of Moderator is not a status symbol; it is a responsibility given to those who have shown themselves to have a desire to help the site and are willing to do so. Each Moderator should do their best to play the part of a 'model member' and lead by example.
  • Always conduct yourself in a professional manner. Being a member of the staff is a job and should be treated as such. Your first priority should be to help the site become bigger and better by interacting with the members both on and off the site and by finding ways for the forum(s) you moderate to grow. If a problem should arise it is your job to help diffuse the situation. Deleting posts and locking threads should only be done if every effort has been made to handle the situation verbally. The TampaForums.com Staff should be the model members of the site and should be looked to as the ideal for appropriate behavior.
  • Treat members with respect. Our goal is to make people feel welcomed here and continue to post and be active. Your attitude toward members, especially new ones, will go along way with other members on the site. Don’t sit back and let member bashing or harassment go and do not participate in it.
  • Do not call members names. If a member is acting out of line kindly show them where they went wrong and offer a solution to help make them a more productive site member.
  • Before making the decision to lock a thread look to see if the thread can be cleaned up and brought back on topic. If so use the “Delete Posts” option to selectively prune the thread.
  • When a thread must be locked give a good explanation. A well written explanation will help the members, as well as the rest of the staff, understand why the thread was locked.
  • Threads to boost a member’s post count should be locked, such as: "My 3000th post!". Similar threads that provide no value, such as “I’m bored” should also be locked or moved to The Champagne Room.
  • Threads that could easily be handled in PM's should be locked. In other words, if you see two people chatting for pages like they’re talking on AIM that isn’t acceptable, politely explain that they can use PM’s or their favorite instant messaging client for this.
  • Thread titles are not allowed to contain profanity - please edit the title. Use the "Edit Thread" option and change the title name from there.
  • No racial slurs or racist comments are allowed. We want to maintain an environment where everyone feels welcomed.
  • Look out for advertisers - especially people advertising other car/offtopic sites. If you have a question if a member is a paying vendor, please ask in the mod forum. If you are sure, lock the thread with a polite message directing them to contact us by email to Advertise@TampaForums.com to advertise. Referral threads, i.e. “Win a free Ipod” and the like are not tolerated, please delete them.
  • Lock car related threads on TampaForums and explain that the thread should be posted on TampaRacing; please provide the link and a description if it is a new member.
  • Nudity is not allowed in any forum on TampaForums other than The Champagne Room. If a member posts nudity please move the thread into said forum, or simply delete the post if it is a random picture inserted in a thread.
  • Threads that have offensive material or content that could be deemed unsafe for viewing at work should have a work warning (*WW*, etc) in the thread title. If you see a thread that is missing a work warning edit the thread and add to the title.
  • Threads or posts that discuss the planning of illegal activities (i.e. street racing or any other kind of illegal activity) should be locked, you should also PM the member.
  • It is you’re responsibility to check the Moderator Forum and keep up to date with announcements made there.
All rules are subject to the interpretation of the TampaForums staff and can be changed or modified at any time.
