Just insured my bike, wanted to compare rates
I just bought insurance for my bike today and wanted to see where mine falls as far as cost goes compared to other bikers rates.
I just insured my 2001 GSX-R 600 and I pay $667.00 every 6 months for collision and comprehensive. I already had my SRT insured with them so I have a multi-policy discount and I carry the same collision limits (25/50/25) on my bike as I do on my car, except my deductible is $500 for the bike and $1000 for my car. I am 23 and currently have no points on my license. I've noticed from alot of posts here and on other motorcycle forums that State Farm is pretty good for bikers, just wanted to get some bearing on which to compare.
So if you have insurance (which hopefully most of you do) if you wouldn't mind posting up what you pay, or even just any helpful hints about what you need/don't need as far as ins. goes. I don't mind paying it to make sure my ass is covered but I also don't want to be wasting money on something unnecessary. Thanks for the input.

You know that it IS the law to have insurance on a street legal motorcycle in Florida? It's not required to show proof of insurance as you register your bike, but it IS the law to have insurance on your bike. A LEO can write you a ticket, and it is a mandatory court date.
Most people think that it ISN'T the law, but it really is.

This is what my MSF course instructor said. I got that information off of him.
At the end of the class he was telling us the miscellaneous things about motorcycle laws, etc.
He was like "So it's not the law to have insurance on a motorcycle right?"
And the whole class said, "Right!"
He said, "Ohh really? Because it is the law. The LEO's can write you a ticket, and it is a mandatory court date. You just don't need insurance to register a motorcycle, like you do a car."
I've heard only the opposite though. Hell, I have insurance on my Bike, so it doesn't really effect me either way.

Straight from the DMV's Motorcycle Handbook: "Florida's mandatory PIP does not apply to motorcycles. Street legal motorcycles with three (3) wheels and motorcycles with attached sidecars are also exempt from this compulsory insurance requirement, however, the voluntary purchase of motor vehicle liability insurance is recommended. Failure to carry liability insurance can result in loss of your driver's license, tag(s), and registration(s) IF YOU ARE INVOLVED IN A TRAFFIC CRASH, CONVICTED OF DUI OR OTHER OCCURANCES as defined in the Financial Responsibility Law, Chapter 324, Florida Statutes."
Just stating facts.

it might be a big lie so insurance companies can charge $10,500 a year (my quote for ($874with multi vehicle discount)05 GSXR1000 with 1 illegal lane change ticket on my record 20 yrs old) for insurance on a bike that cost $10,999

I asked someone who currently does bike classes and they said it is a requirement to have insurance on a bike. It may or may not be true but it's a requirement for sure if you are under 21 I hear.
