Only protect the areas of your body that you do not mind losing.

Need more realistic, close to home reasoning... go see Chuck at Bayfront Medical Center.

He was wearing a helmet (which has severe damage to it), gloves (which did thier job... but are destroyed) and boots.
He has no damage on his feet, hand or head.
The rest of his body is covered in blood and puss soaked bandages.

Wear your gear.

I think they were(FI), I have a helmet and jacket. This week im gonna get some gloves, boots, maybe pants. It has been a while for me(10 years so im taking it slow).
