It looks as though there may have been an issue with the front hub / rim assembly.
The guy riding next to him watched it happen.
He said the front tire start to wobble real bad.
However, the bars where not wobbling.
Within an instant the bike endo'd over and burst into flames.
We still do not know the root cause... The front wheel was not recovered and it is making it harder to understand what went wrong.

I just got back from the hospital... he looks rough.
He'll live, but it will take some time for his wounds to heal.
Road Rash sucks... note to self: don't be cheap on gear.

It is always sad to hear stories like this. I hope he gets better soon. What type of gear was he wearing? Stories like this always make me wear all gear all the time no matter how hot out it is.

I don't think it's just the 05-06 1000s, the front brakes on my 04 750 just did the same thing to me too like three hours ago, I was only doing like 20-30mph though, I was easing onto the brakes coming up to a red light and all of a sudden the front wheel just locked up on me, sent the bike to the right and me into traffic, luckily I only got a few scrapes and bruises but my hand hurts like a bitch! I just don't understand why it did that though, thak god for frame sliders too! Anyways hope he's back on the streets soon, best of luck!

The front wheel was recovered.
The hub assembly appears to be ok.
One of the three spokes on the rim broke.
Not sure if this was the cause, or the effect.
