My right arm is soooo sore....
use your legs more. you shouldn't be holding on or up with your arms. there just there to work the controls and push one bar to turn if needed. when first learning your lower should be where you feel it
i ride on handed a lot the use the other to rest on the tank.

I do that too. All the time. I lay down on the bike and rest my left arm on the tank. I got caught out in the rain comming back from the store today.... listen to this....
So I goto the 7/11 down the street a couple blocks, I get in there, and see Dasani (sp?) water, 2 for 5 bucks for the 6 packs. So not thinking... I pick up two packs and go up to the register.
I realize this as soon as I start walking up to the counter, and laugh to myself. The lady behind the counter smiles at me and asks... "Didn't you ride up on that motorcycle?" "Yup.", I said. She kind of laughed and asked how I was going to get these home. I snickered a bit and said, "I like to make life complicated." She laughed and put them in seperate bags for me. So after a minuite or two, fiddling with these two bulky bags... I put one on each side of the handle bars, and slowly began riding home. It wasn't bad once I got going, but stopping for traffic sucked. I must have looked like such a dumbass.
To make matters worse... half way back it started raining, so now Im home all soaked.... it was interesting.

I agree about the leg comments, you really gotta use them to lean and hold yourself up. You really should just be using your hands to operate the controls and not for holding yourself up. If you have aftermarket clip ons which are below your tripple tree than that will hurt your back (hurts mine), but my shoulders haven't hurt much that I can recall. As far as your hands, sometimes people get cramps in them from having a tight grip on the handle bars (clip ons) and also from braking/using clutch a lot while on twisty roads. For this, a lot of the pros have suggested squeezing stress balls to build up stamina in your hand muscles. I haven't tried it yet but its worth a shot.
ps. i cant believe you got a bike hahaah

Im a lot taller then you are though Jess.
So Im always leaned forward no matter what. I have to sit up constantly on this thing. That's prolly why my shoulder was hurting. It's fine now. My hands are very sore though. I have an iron grip on that thing.

It has nothing to do with ones height, most pro riders are tall guys. Granted you are asking about daily street riding and not proffesional riding, but keeping weight off of your clip ons will definitely increase your riding, and if you find a good position for yourself it should also help your shoulder. Believe me I'm leaning forward when I ride (I have vortex clip ons below my upper tripple tree which makes for a huge difference in my seating position), but I try my best to use length strength to keep me upright. Its like when you lift something heavy off of the ground, "use your legs not your back" as they say.

i was the same way about 5 years ago when i started riding. what u really have to do is relax on your bike, because when u first start riding your bike u r stiff as hell, and it's natural. when u start doing more riding u will be ok.
If you are taller then your arms are longer too... Just use your legs and dont be afraid to pur some weight in the seat. I have ridden for hours and hours w/no problems.
