need for speed bike and helmet advice
I am looking at getting another bike soon, I am leaning towards the honda cbr and the gsx, the only thing is I don't know whether I want the 1000 or 600cc model. I haven't ridden either yet, I want good power but not at the cost of handling. I also want a bike that has a large aftermarket following so that bolt ons are easy to find. what year did these bike start coming with fuel injection? and what price range am I looking at for a given year. I would like to stay 2000 or newer but will comprimise for the right price.
also what helmets ( brands and options) are you using or have used in the past, what did you like/dislike about them?
thanks

suzuki's gsxr were first avail in FI on the 1998 srad 750 model. a very basic (8mb) processor found on the tl's i believe (prone to alot of lurching, etc, but can be mapped out)
IMO, the gsxr 1K (k5) is BETTEr than a 600 in it's poise, and has the motor to go all day long....
i also can vouch for it's following, and offer to you a quick visit to me site (see below) for visual stimulations....
i also love the zx10R, but i bleed blue and white (14 years of zook ownership)

ps- if you have a pumpkinhead (myself) the shoei's generally will fit your grape better. if you have a more oblong mellonhead, the arias generally are gonna wrap your grape better....
make sure to try it on before shopping for one online, if you chose to got the helmetshop.com

Unless you are going to be doing some racing at the track then you will be happy with a 600. The liter bikes are for those who have had some serious seat time, so if that is not you and you do not have the will power to stay out of go grip I would stick to the 600's. Most 05 600's will run with a stock liter bike from 98-00 if you have the guts to run the bike up to the limit. I just purchased a new Kawi ZX-6R which is a 636cc motor that if FI. This bike will flat out move. So the big question is how much do you want to spend on a bike you know you will drop at least once. Answer that question and the rest come easy.

so the acceleration ( 0-60 or 1/4) is neck and neck from the 600 to the 1000, it's a matter of top end speed? of which I don't imagine I'll want too much over 90mph ( well until the will power crumbles and I just have to nail it once.)
thanks for the help, are there any other bikes that are the equal of the cbr and the gixxer ( bikes within the same price range, not the ducatti or bmw's)?

if you are a novice, please dont consider a literbike (nor any modern day 600-750)
start small, and actually learn to ride well, and progress upward.
i'll reserve comments on the usefulness of the 1K's on the street, if you are new to bikes.

I'll never understand why anyone would want to start off lower then a 600...
What is the point?
I learned on an 600... and got use to the power very fast. After a couple weeks of riding the 600... Decided to get a 750.
I think a 600 is the best bike to start on... Not to much and not to little.
Anything below (to me) kind of defeats the purpose of a bike ... speed.
But what do i know... im just a dumb squid.
