Default gas milage

Well I've never owned a bike as of yet and am thinking of getting one as pretty much a daily driver. I hear they are good on gas, but how good are they really? 30mpg? 40mpg? If anyone can provide me with any insight that would be great, thanks.

i get at about 38 miles to a gallon not babing it.

i get about 30mpg on a 1000
my buddies 02' R6 gets 180miles a tank but i think his bike is a factory freak.

I get about 50 mpg every tank on my 500!

lowest ive gotten since bought the bike was 36 mpg, and that was getting on it, a LOT. i usually get 42-48 mpg, normal riding (not babying it)
