Question The Big Question

Is insurance required to operate a motorcycle like it is required for a car? I'm asking this because some old man just rear ended me when I was driving home in my civic, and was just wondering what if I was on my bike? I have been told by many that it is not , but was wondering if anyone knew the real answer.

Thanks! And drive/Ride safe! It's a jungle out there

Ins is not required unless your bike is financed and the lender requires it. I pay about $48/month for 50/100k BIL, 25k prop damage and Comp(everything but collision). Should be cheap enough for similar coverage there is no reason not to carry it.

Edited..... with my exact rate and coverage from renewal........

What Company is that and how old are you Charles? That is pretty cheap to insure a bike.

That is cheap. I am 25 with a past 4 year flawless record and being that I have a 05 bike with the highest insurance rating of 44 plus two car coverge and employee discount, I still would have to pay 5k a year to insure my bike through Progressive.

HOWEVER

If you do not carry Bodily Injury coverage and you are in an accident, your lic. will get suspended!

Like motorcycle insurance or health insurance?

That is contradicting if it is not required to carry it but if you don't carry it then your license gets supended..

Somebody please point me in the direction of the law that states all this mess...

26 and with Progressive, the collision coverage will drive your rates WAY up.

Don't forget I also ride the "dad's sport tourer" model of bike too, that helps quite a bit I'm sure

He is referring to BIL(bodiliy injury liability), this covers the other people involved in an accident when you are at fault....there medical bills......
