Do NOT wait for him to pay for it. Take him to court and get a judgement against him. You will save yourself so much headahce in the long run if you do it this way. Becuase if he doesn't end up paying or doesn't pay the full amount, then you will have a heck of a time trying to plead your case in a corut of law 6+ months down the road. By winning a court judgement you already have proof that he MUST pay for damages. Usually there will be a time limit after which you can put leins on everything that could poosible be his(same for the parents), you can garnish wages, and you can have to right to make payments do at anytime you choose. This keeps the gray area to a minimum.
Nothing personal, just business. Go by a dealer for an estimate for repairs. Give that to his parents, and let them have a week to pay the money before you file suit. You will go through with a small claims which has a limit of 5K. Go for the limit and see what you can get a judgment for.

 

Well, what could have been done should've been done already, I see you called the police but you need to MAKE them write a report regardless of whether they say it's on private propety or not. Their job as police is to protect the rights of citizens and you certainly have a right to make a claim that that guy wrecked your bike. You need to gather any witnesses and have them make a statement to the reporting officer. All this should have been done at the time this happened and with all suspects and witnesses on scene to make statements. Otherwise I hate to say it but you're SOL if he doesn't live up to his word and pay. Never Ever take somebody's word on a matter like this no matter how small it is, If you are ever in doubt call law enforcement or even an attorney for advice. Now if you decide to take this to court there is nothing you can prove other than your word against his, especially with no witnesses or written report from police. The best thing you can do is hope he is an honest guy and confess in small claims court or even carries out his promise to pay for damages.

Good Luck in this and hope everyone learned a lesson like not to let somebody else ride your bike with no insurance unless you are ready to pay for freak accidents like this one.!
