Default Fell into a ZX7R and never owned a bike

I am going to be receiving a 1997 ZX7R on sunday. I know nothing about this bike and would like to have some info on it. I have never ridden so this is my first bike. Up till now it has been only dirt bikes. I dont know what specific questions to ask about this bike so any info would be new to me. Is it a good bike? How much is it worth ( I am not paying money for mine) what kind of power can i expect? I am going to be learning how to ride this weekend with the person I am getting th bike from so I would like to know about the bike before i complete the transaction.

It's not worth anything. I'll give you $100 for it. But really it's an OK bike. It's heavier than most 750 bikes and it's a little low on power in it's class. Probably not the best bike to learn on but as long as you respect the fact that it is a 700+ cc bike you should be OK. Definately recommend the MSF rider course and make sure you get some gear (leathers, helmet, etc)

It's not that low on power. Maybe compared to a 2004 but when they were new they were fast. I used to ride a 94 ZX-9 and it had 135rwhp which was fast then and still is. Put that against a new one and it's not that much slower just heavier. This is his first bike so it's plenty fast enough for him.

a 2000 ZX7R has 108.6hp while a 2000 gixxer 750 has 123. That's a big difference on a motorcycle. Not to mention the a zx7 weighs 527 wet while the 750 is only 426.

Depends on how much you want to spend. You can get a decent HJC helmet for around $150-$180 or you can get an Arai or Shoei for twice that amount. Same goes with jackets. You can get a $350 Icon or Joe Rocket jacket or you can get a Speedrag jacket like mine for $140.
